Fender Aerodyne Club!

Family was nice enough to get me the hipshot bridge for Christmas. I installed it and I'm very happy with the result.View attachment 382348

Do you have the body with the recessed caivity? I would like to replace the bridge on my Aerodyne, but it has a recessed cavity. Bought a Babciz bridge once and it was too big to fit in the recess, and I would have either had to make a shim plate or rout teh body. I didnt want to do either so I returned the bridge.

thx

I have the non export which is the one with the bridge cavity that brings the stock bridge to "sit inside the body" if that's what you mean by recessed cavity. The bridge I installed doesn't fit inside either but rather right over it and I didn't have to do anything surprisingly. Here's a full pic of it with the Hipshot bridge on it

I just posted in the Fender Precision club and requested a number, not realizing there was also an Aerodyne club... awesome! May I have a Fender Aerodyne Club number too? I'll post a different picture just to keep my posts unique :)

One more question.....for now...

Is the nut width different between the P and the J Aerodynes? I do not see many P's out there anyway but if I can find one, I'd prefer a neck that is a wee bit wider than a "typical" J. I love that these have the 7.25" radius finger boards!

There isn't one. The P bass was marketed as the "Aerodyne Class Precision Bass Special." Any "Precision Special" has the 1.5" nut width

In regards to numbers, I've still got them under control. I just have to get around to them in my psycho demolition manager existence... Thanks guys.

Let this be a lesson for all other owners of the non-export Aerodynes.

First off - the PJ pickguard for a Blacktop bass does NOT fit over the Aero pickups. The Blacktop neck pickups are 14mm (0.55") closer to the neck than on the Aerodyne, which has a more traditional P placement for the pup. Secondly, the shape is a little different and doesn't follow the lower horn and curves of the bass in the correct way.

Don't go and order an expensive pickguard to find out the hard way, like I did.

Got my hand on this beauty just 2 days ago. Around 7 years old. Japan non-export model.

NUMBER PLEASE! :hyper:

Also : I see many of you have had your bass decked out! I also was thinking about dropping a chunkier bridge since I've gotten used to massive bridge on my previous bass. The Badass II is a good choice as Ive heard, but they are quite rare and expensive... Any good alternatives? Prefably black ones! :smug:

P.S. Disregard the weird wall, I live in a dorm.
