Fender Aerodyne Club!

Hey folks, I requested a number back in the beginning of January... also sent a PM to Catbuster on the 17th of February. Anyone know if Catbuster is still handing out numbers, or should I be inquiring with someone else?

Really like the P-Bass aerodyne. You can find Jazz models for sale fairly regularly, the P-Bass seems to be less common on eBay for example. I don't know why they discontinued them. They all look good, and that natural amber/yellow jumps out at you.

Thanks WoodyH... Yeah I have no idea why they discontinued them. I love the one that I managed to snap up. I still search for them just to see how available they are... I would be really tempted to buy another one in blue

Looking for a number. Awesome bass.

I'd like to say so much to defend it. Something like, "Maybe it was a dud", "Perhaps all it needs is a good set-up", "Were the strings dead or not complimentary to that bass" or "Maybe it's not the right kind of bass for your ear's tastes", but being aaaaaalllll the way across the pond, I'll never be able to put any of these theories to the test.

That being said, the preponderance of evidence point towards them being excellent basses. So in light of that, I guess all I can say with any authority is, "Ah well…"

2 Things from me:

1. The Aerodynes DO respond to strings. I love mine with DR sunbeams or others, that are not too bass heavy.

I gotta agree there. The DR Black Beauties on mine sound more than decent, the D'Addario flats were pretty darn good too, but put on some Ernie Ball Cobalts and you've got one growly bass.

2. to those on search: Check the U-box at the Ishibashi Website. There are always some Aerodynes for small bucks…

For example this:

And isn't that what was inside the briefcase from "Pulp Fiction"? :D

Well when I got mine I was a little disappointed as well and for about a month I tried to "love it" and it just wasn't happening. Finally got the time and set it up the way I like it (a little string height adjustment, truss rod adjustment) and now it plays beautifully. It now plays like I expected it too.

I recently took a Hipshot Vintage bridge to my disc sander and shaved a little off the sides then carved a couple larger radius corners to match the rout in my Aero-P. The bottom plate is a little shorter, but the overhang hides any discrepancies. MUCH better bridge IMO.

At any rate, I liked it so much that I sent specs to Hipshot and they're whipping me up a custom Vintage bridge to fit the Aero rout exactly. Can't wait to see the end result! Until then, here's some pics of the modified bridge.

Years ago I had a lovely black Aerodyne PJ that was light and great sounding. In a moment of mental impairment I traded it away for a Crafted in Japan Strat. I still miss that bass. Here's what I've got left: a poorly recorded blues jam with my brother on guitar at an outdoor street party. The Aerodyne is shiny even in the dark--and you can't see the fingerprints. I liked Dean Markley Blue Steels on mine.
