Fender American Deluxe P bass 5 string Eyecandy

I loathe Fender basses. I especially hate P basses. But I love that cherryburst bass! That is sick. This bass is the 1 or 2 Fenders I would actually want to buy, the other being a Roscoe Beck. I'd actually love to have that cherryburst P5 
What a gorgeous pair of basses! I really hope Fender brings them back. I always wanted to try one.
I have a chance to trade one of my ADP 4's for a ADP fiver. Never played five strings before. Can't see how I'd go wrong with that move.

There is a cherryburst on eBay right now for $1950 shipped. Way too much if you ask me but if you really want one I guess you can't put a price on love.
That's the one I'd be trading with. Cheryburst/rosewood four for a trans red/maple five. We'll see what happens. I went to guitar center tonight and played some fivers just for the fun of it. No fenders but some pretty cool musicmans. I could probably force myself to get used that extra string.

The trans red color is nice also. But it looks better with the red matching pickguard..... Ya that's the sweetspot.
Very very nice. Can you do an A/B test with the same setup? I'd like to hear the extent of difference between Rosewood and Maple on the same bass
Congrats. I'd love to swap out my '08 4-string version for a fiver, especially since they're discontinued now. Why on earth did Fender do that???
I will try to give you my take on the difference.
Electronics-
If you like active basses the cherryburst is for you. The cherryburst blend knob is best turn all the way to the bridge Pickup. The neck pickup can be a little hot on the mids IMHO. If you like that great jazz active sound with a pinch of hardcore P-bass grit then this is it.
As for the sunburst it has a much more pernounced Ventage P bass sound with great settings anyway. If turned to the bridge P U it give a real great funk tone. But this bass sounds best with blend knob flat. This gives it more of that mean P bass growl. IMHO This is a better for the sound. Also I hear people say the pickups on these basses are very noisy but mine are very quiet on both with no problems. I might just have got lucky but these pickups are great.
Body-
ok I think most people can agree that the color of the aged cherryburst is beautiful. But at the same time I have had alot of sunburst Fender and id have to say this is a way better color then the standard sunburst. You can really see the wood grain come out in this finish.
I have just weighed the basses and at no suprise the sunburst came in at 8.4 pounds. I have never owned a bass this light and it is very noticable up against the cherryburst at 10 Ibs. Although the cherryburst is heavier the sustain is great. So I guess there is good in both sides.
I haven't made up my mind about the Badass bridge on the cherryburst yet. I think it helps on the sustain but it sounds very electronic and too close if you want to play on the bridge pickup. But I ordered a factory Fender bridge and I think I will install it to see the difference. So the vertict isn't in on this subject yet.
Neck-
ok on to the necks. The cherryburst is very smooth and comfortable. This is my first maple neck and I have to say it's very nice. The sunburst neck is pao ferro. I love the color more then the maple. If you see a pao ferro neck then you'll know what I'm talking about. The finish is awesome. But it doesn't slide as well if you ask me. The maple neck is about a 1/16 inch wider but I have very long fingers and it feels better to me. I belive the strings are spaced out a little more on the 4+1. The inline 5 tuners are aranged very good for trying to fit all on one side. All in all I think the maple is my pick on necks with the cleaner look and feel, but you can't beat that inline 5 look.
To sum it up I love my new cherryburst any I will never get rid of it because It is a collecters bass and it is beautiful. But I think the sunburst sounds better belive it or not. But that's mostly for my type of music and preferance. I hope this helps and I will try to get a YouTube link once I make a comparison of them.
But sadly I have to sell one of them because it's getting too hard to decide witch one I am going to bring to a gig. Oh what a hard decision. Only because of how rare the cherrybursts are I am going to sell the other one. Hit me up with any questions you have about these basses and I'll try to answer them or I'm sure someone will.

I just started looking for one of these yesterday, (got the okay from the wife hehe), they are a tough piece to find, I saw the cherry sunburst for $1950 but its too much and its wasn't there last night, there is also one on craigslist in Los angeles for $1200 I just dont feel so secure spending $1200 on craigslist that's all the way across the country (I'm in Northern NYS). I have a guitard player buddy (grew up with him) who plays in Nashville and is signed by Fender, asking the guys in the shop if there's one around to be had. Ive looked at all sorts of basses and this seems to be the natural choice for a modern and classic rock player who wants some versatility and the p bass sound. I cant wait!!! can you say GAS
