Fender American Design Experience

View attachment 438401
This is my model. I can buy it in GC and it will be cheaper.
Looking at Fender's website, I don't believe you can.

It looks like the candy apple red American special only comes with a maple fingerboard and it has a different bridge on it.

If you went with an American Standard, you could get the rosewood fingerboard and the same bridge like the one in your pic, but you couldn't get a candy apple red body or that same headstock.

Nice bass rafitoprtx, i'm a lover of candy apple red. Why I'm considering the american special p as well as the american standard. Mystic red just doesn't look as good.

I felt the same way about the reds. It's subtle, but there is a difference. I'm really looking forward to my American Standard P-bass arriving! I'm hoping to get a Jazz as well. If this works out as well as the early arrivals suggest I hope they will be adding more options.

Hey Fletz

Did you get a reply from Fender regarding the pickup issue?
Yes I did. Thanks for reminding me. They said yes, it is reversed and apologized. I was cool with it because (a) the volumes are uniform across the strings and (b) the way I attack the strings with my fingers it works out for me.

I will be posting some more information here soon about some amazing customer service, but I want to do it justice.

I think it's cool how it ended up that way and that you kept it. Makes it even more unique.

That's awesome Fletz.

Cheers

If think having it setup like that might be a plus on a p bass. The A tends to be loudest and rings a little more on many Fenders I've used. Having it reversed would probably give some slight oomph to the D and allow the raised pole side to sit a little lower, with the G raised up a bit at a slight tilt upward. Easier to find a corresponding height for the E and A, I'd imagine. I'm probably splitting hairs though;)

I'd be interested in Telecaster bass options.

That might work for Fender. There's always been a pretty small market for these. My guess is that Fender has to be pretty careful not to piss off its retailers. (I know I'd be pretty angry if I was a Fender retailer.) If Fender can convince the retailers that they are just doing this with oddball combinations that the retailers would never stock (e.g. lefties), then they might be able to keep the peace.

I don't think they are worried at all about the retailers. They haven't been worried about mom and pop shops for years as evidenced by their minimum order standards. And what are Sam Ash and GC going to do? Stop selling Fenders?

This whole deal feels like the tip of the iceberg. FMIC knows that brick and mortar guitar shops are going the way of video stores. By 2020, 90% of shopping will be online and companies like Sweetwater will be at the top of the food chain unless FMIC starts doing their own retailing.
