Fender American Design Experience

I emailed Fender about various options yesterday. Here is their response:

"We hope to offer just about every option we feature on our production line in the future. Unfortunately, Marketing and R&D is pretty tight lipped as to what they are cooking up. Therefore, I have no information as to when this option will be available in the future. I would keep your eyes on the website (Invalid Link Removed) and listen to what comes out of future NAMM shows."

Very promising and I like the idea that they are taking baby steps. Better to do it slow and right then quick and problematic.
Been a year since this post and still no new options. Glad to see they're on top of things over there at Fender. And no 5 string option. Fail

Well, I got the mod shop email tonight and all I can say is that I'm glad I got my bass through the ADE program (shown above in this thread). There are LESS choices in the new program as far as I can tell. For example, I don't see the ability to pick your body wood, use a J neck on a P-Bass, or get a custom neck plate like we could in ADE. Less neck and pickup choices. Not to mention all the new things we were hoping for such as fretless neck options and 5-strings. I thought it would be an improvement, but it looks like a downgrade from the ADE program at first glance.

Yep, fewer options across the board. No fretboard blocks available, no choice of tuners, no bridge options. The list goes on. Not to mention there are only nine color options, and they aren't great. The only green is surf green, which is basically teal.

I hate to be negative but this is a downgrade from the ADE. I like the color choices but the rest of the "options" are not optional at all. They change automatically based on color and neck choice. I have not tried every combination but the ones I did try had no "options".
In my opinion, all they really needed to improve ADE was to add colors and neck configuration options. Sure would like to be in these decision-making meetings. :)
At least this saves me money since I will not be tempted to buy one. Better choices with MJT!!

Now that's looking on the bright side! I'm likewise no longer tempted to give Fender my money!! :D But disappointed in the downgrade. What they had was a good start, too bad they had to mess it up.
