I started collecting seafoam green basses just for the satin finish. In case anyone is wondering, a satin finish is harder to get right than a gloss and feels really cool. To say it's cheap is a misnomer at best.

Fender American Performer Precision Bass- thoughts?

Sweet Tele...My fav guitar....if I could play better
I had a strat..very comfortable neck...like a Jazz bass.
Is the Tele a thicker neck? baseball bat?
Nah, no baseball bat. A slightly chubbier medium C, I'd say. Not quite as thin as a modern C, but def not a stump.
I also had a green/rosewood Hwy 1 Strat! Loaded it with Fralin 54s. I still hate myself for selling it during the 2008 recession/resulting job loss, etc. I let it go for a paltry $350 to make rent.
If I found another for a fair price I'd jump on it.
Does anyone know if the American Performer basses has any type of graphite or steel rods in the neck. Besides the truss rod of course.

According to Fender customer service, they have graphite rods.

The American Performer is a sweet bass but there are a couple things that miss the mark for me personally.
I'm not really that impressed with the Yosemite pickups or the Greasebucket tone control. The heel truss rod adjustment is a bummer for me too.
To get that bass how I want, I'd be looking at changing the pickups and electronics at minimum. Might as well spend the money on a bass that is as I want it from the factory.
Cool basses anyway. I think they do a nice job on the necks and fret work.

Arrghh...I snoozed and missed it....Enjoy my favorite neck of any Fender.Good to hear. I just picked up a Performer neck for a custom build.

Well...my volume pot started acting weird...so I tried rewiring to no success..
SO...I replaced the volume pot with a CTS and while at it I took out the Greasebucket and put in a new CTS pot and Orange Drop Cap
BOOM!!!!! Sound has Opened up and sounds more Growly, Big and Precision bass like...similar to my 73

Nice, I did the same with my Performer P (J). Not sure how stifling the greasebucket was (is) but I'm digging the sound. I also swapped the Yosemite P pick up with a V Mod American P pick up I had kicking around and I like the tone. I still might try a matched set, but this pick up combo seems to behave OK.

I treally never had a problem...and loved the way my bas sounded..
But with one of the pots going bad, In replacing it I thought I would see why so much hate for the Grease Bucket.
Do you/ Did you not have a Lakland with Fralin?

I had them in my 5ver Jazz basses...Fender Marcus Miller and Lakland
