If you got a good 96 Amer Std. I'm sure you you're fine. I will say though that I had a very average Amer Std. 4 and 5 (2012 and 2013) and the new Amer Pro Jazz just totally blew those 2 away. In every way.

Sure. The 4 string American Standard Jazz had a slightly convexed fingerboard that the frets had been leveled to compensate for it (more fret removed in the leveling process at that area). The bass never played without fret buzz. The 5 string American Standard Jazz had a rise in the finger board from the 13th fret to the end of the neck. A luthier at GC corrected that by leveling the frets more from that point on but that was a bandaid at best. Still, the bass did play better after that. The pickups on those basses didn't sound nearly as good as the new designed pickups on the American Pro (at least to my ears). I also prefer the new neck profile and new narrow/higher frets. The neck just feels better to me.

I have been hearing that the Fender Pro's have a low output. Sometimes hotter pickup which are still passive may lose highs if hotter. I was reading a Pickup manufacturer said "The greater the number of windings the greater the capacitance and inductance of the pickup. Because of this more low end is generated along with an increase in output." So more low end you get less Highs. This may be what you want. Nothing wrong with more low end but personally I would like some highs also which can be nice... its all a trade off.
Can anyone actually quantify whether these pickups have lower output and, if so, whether it's significant?
Interesting. A buddy of mine (a huge Jazz guy) was telling me, prior to my purchase of the new American Pro, that the American Pro sounded to his ears more like an active bass. After hearing it, I believe that he was referring to the fact that it has nice round tone that almost has an EQ'd sound. I can certainly hear where he was coming from. As for the new pickups output, they sounded comparable to the overall output of the pickups in the G&L JB5's that I also tried that day at ABG. All of my other basses are active so it's hard for me to say. Regardless, I just increase the input sensitivity on my Thunderfunk and rock on.

I'm a P guy, and the America Pro Ps to me look meh...but damn it if those jazzes dont look sweet!
I've got my eye on an Oly White P at a local music store. Just played it (again). I'm loving the fatter neck, the weight, the even tone. My resistance is all but gone. Help!

I pounched on a used AmPro in Olympic White with rosewood board and mint guard and it came in last night (in mint condition!). Haven't gotten to play it much yet, but so far I love it. Will get to put in more time with it tomorrow. Can't wait!
