I have been eyeing that model t for a couple of years. It originally had active electronics, didn't it? What made you want to put the GEEZERS (passive) in it? I'm just curious if there was a problem with the original pups or do you just not want the active electronics?

I'm a big fan of passive tone control. There was nothing wrong with the stock EMG setup, it just wasn't me.

i like the look! i like a lot of axes because they look good to me. but i couldn't have one that has those metal things up and down the fingerboard, so: not my thing in any case. frets = "dead to me."

Pretty cool piece from Fender and Wildwood. I'd like it a lot better with a contoured body and a flatter radius but that's just me. Sounds great.

How dare Fender do a limited run, all-roasted bass, with my favorite body and neck style and favorite PU configuration and not sell it for $3,000+ as a custom shop model!

I like my basses light. The lightest they had (8.0 lbs) had poorly matched body halves, so I went with a 8.3 pounder with nicer matched body halves.

It looks like Fender is copying EBMM's "roasted" wood look. It does make maple look way cooler. Was anyone doing this before EBMM?

Not sure, but Fender did have a roasted Ash P bass and Jazz two or three years ago.

So many design variations have already been done on the classic designs, I'm sure it's extremely difficult to come up with something that potential customers will notice.

Looking at the NAMM photos of new Fenders, there sure are lots of neat looking treatments, gotta give Fender credit for finding designers that can keep coming up with this stuff.

Can't continue on as a company making just sunburst bodies with a tort guard.

My latest Warmoth build is similar - roasted maple neck with graphite reinforcements, roasted chambered Alder body with a roasted Swamp ash cap, Hipshot ultralites, etc. Came in at about $1200 - case extra (already had that)

Already assembled?....$1200 does sound pretty reasonable.

I have very vocal regarding 4 string Fender style instruments.

I honesty feel that there is no reason to ever buy Fender over building a Warmoth unless your looking for instant gratification.

They are superior in every way with the craftsmanship and wood choices.
You get to pick the parts you like and build something better and cheaper.
If you are a real player and not just someone who is looking at flipping it then to me it's no brainer.

I'm so happy that someone else shared this sentiment. It just always boggles my mind when I see these threads of fender putting out something new and people ogling and saying something along the lines of "finally fender made XYZ" when they could have made it 10 years ago with warmoth parts.

Disclaimer: I'm not knocking Fender and I love when they put out anything slightly innovative because it breaks their usual mold. I also think their lower end stuff is a fantastic value. Just when it comes to paying top dollar for a Fender-style instrument, you might as well get ALL the details you want just right (and often cheaper).

Heh, I asked a fellow bassist at a jam if he wanted to try my recently completed J build after some unplugged play time, as he seemed to enjoy it. He responded with "I don't want to play it because if it's better than mine ['74 Fender Jazz], I'll be pissed off".

I love how easy it is to assemble your own parts basses. Quality and custom, to your liking and budget.

This bass is a slight variation of something that has been offered for years. A lot of complaints and people continue to complain that Fender continues to offer the same choices.
