Fender are doing a duff Mckagan signature model

Strange, I couldn't find any mention of this on Fender's web site. I must have missed it. But for me, this is just a big yawn. Yet another P-bass special that isn't so special.

For me, the painted neck is a major selling point. I have the P model from this line and really like the feel. I've considered selling it a few times, but everytime I pick it up, I rethink the decision.

Sure, they look totally 80's, but that's really one of the smaller considerations for me when I buy. Besides, the Precision I bought is all blacked out and kinda loses that vibe.

My third or fourth bass was a Jazz Bass Special that looked almost identical (pearl finish on body, black headstock). Did not like the sound. Kicked myself for selling my Kramer Pioneer, which sounded and played much better.

I'm almost sure he plays one with a reverse P pickup.
+1 for plain....coulda putting an extra two frets like some of the other Jazz Specials he owned.

ya its called a jazz bass special MIJ, I had a black one, what a GREAT bass, sold it like an idiot, it was the most resonate bass i have ever owned. you felt every note when you played it.

Two of my first "real" basses were jazz specials. I had a fretted in pewter and a fretless (w/ a jazz style neck) in black. I used them on a ton of pop recordings with some of my old bands and a jingle or two. I really miss them... but not enough to sell the Sadowskys!

For a while I thought the black neck/headstock was graphite. Not sure how that would sound but at least it would make the sig model unique (as oppossed to essentially just another Fender with different paint).

a Deathshead sticker and black rotosound black anodised "spacer" strings with all different neon silks and your all set.

On short notice, this is all I could find. You can see a hint of the sticker on his bass. Back int eh day, that was always how I thought of him, playing either a black or white bass with this sticker.

I had not heard of them in 1988 or so when I saw that, I sought them out and now Social D are one of my favorite bands. Thanks Duff !!

I had a black one once. It got stolen when someone broke into our tour bus.
I loved that bass and still miss it.

Are the control pots placed in a way that someone could just put a standard Fender pickguard on top?

Those things are around on ebay once in a while for short money. Can't see spending big bucks for a bass I could get off ebay for $350.

Looks like a regular old MIJ J Special to me.
