Fender BASS VI MIJ RI!!!

OLD, OLD News my friend....See..Log In | Facebook and scroll down for lots of information...

How to get one? Contact some music stores in Japan (Google) to see if someone will export one. You'll need to pay for shipping and customs duty as well though. Probably looking at US$2,000 or so when all is said and done.

In all honesty, in this particular case, you might be better off getting the updated 2012 Schecter Hellcat VI for US$600 delivered (including genuine Seymour Duncan SJAG-1 PUPS this time around) [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. If you compare them side-by-side you'll be very, very surprised what 1/3 of the price will get you. Unless, of course, you MUST have a Fender and a whammy bar!

The exact guitar (Jaguar Baritone Custom is what it's called) used to be sold in the US. I actually bought one of these from Musician's Friend when back in early 2006 for $499 (seriously). I got it just because I was a dumb college grad with a credit card and thought it would be cool to have. It was a fun guitar, but a week later I "wised up" and sent it back to MF. Now they sell on eBay for $1500! Yeah, my butt is sore from 6 years of kicking myself... :rollno:

Cool! I'd love to own a reissue of the Fender VI bass.

For $2,000?? I'd check out the $600 new Schecter Hellcat VI first. That is if you are just looking for the Bass VI tone.

If you "MUST" have a FENDER Bass VI - well, that's another issue altogether...Lot of money to spend for a Fender decal on the headstock though IMO..

I appreciate alternate suggestions, but my personal preference would be a Fender model. The selling price is not $2000. Fender website(s) always refer to the MRSP, not the store street prices. I just looked it up at Ishibashi Music, who lists it at 126,000 Yen, which converted to Canadian Dollars (at today's exchange rate) is just over $1500. (USD and CAD are pretty much equal these days, so it will approximately be the same calculation.)

I based my estimate on the TOTAL you will need to spend. Yes, I know it is 126,000 Yen for the VI. But, that's far from the only expense you will have. You will also have the privilege of paying the extra (actually mandatory) expenses of shipping and of insurance (roughly a total of 14,000 Yen or $170 for both) and then don't forget there's the duty your friendly Canadian government customs agency will happily be ready to collect from you on your imported goods (which is based on the actual value of the item and will be collected in full upon delivery to you.) So, as I said originally, I imagine you are looking at very close to $2,000 when all is said and done.

In addition, many past purchasers of the last wave of MIJ VI's were not satisfied with the pups and ended up upgrading them. There were also issues with tuning and intonation due to the floating bridge. So, all in all, I would wait until there are some reviews of it before I'd take the plunge. Meanwhile, the 2012 Hellcat VI has gotten some nice reviews and comes with genuine Seymour Duncan SJAG-1 Jaguar pups. Personally, I doubt if the MIJ Fender VI's standard Jaguar pups will be that nice. I'm also curious if the new MIJ is over 3 times as good as the Schecter. ($2000 vs $600.)

Anyway, I do hope you get it so you can review it for the rest of us!! :hyper: Just go in with your eyes (and wallet) wide open.

Yes, I agree with you. Shipping/duty, etc probably would come up to $2K.

Actually, I have a feeling the same Fender purchasing restrictions would be in place on buying their items. Fender is one of those companies that places regional restrictions. For example, I cannot buy any new Fender item from US. So I'm guessing it would be the same case for the Japan models. There are no such restrictions if the item is used though.

Unfortunately, what I want and what I could afford are 2 different things. At the moment, I couldn't purchase either brand's model. My preference, if funds were available, would be the Fender. That said, if anyone wants to donate funds to me so I could buy both models and review them, I'm all for it. Hehe.

Happy friday!

Yes, one can get it from Japan, no problem. The money? Well, that's another issue all together....
