My 1996 MiM precision has the hole, the Indonesian squier fretless jazz (no pickguard) which I bought a few years ago doesn’t. Now I want to take the PG off my recently acquired Sire P7 to see if there’s a smuggling compartment under there.
Did you leave it in there and put the pickguard over it?
Its a piece of wood with metal bolted on it. Not some endangered species or mythical creature

i have news for you … USA instruments have had this hole on and off for years. Also , I’ve never seen a Squier with it !

But also same hole on Guitars; Here is post from 2014 on Guitar side of things
"According to Jeff Beilke from Fender, "That [hole] is indeed a byproduct of the routing machines utilized in our Mexico factory. I believe that's where the CNC machine actually holds the body in place in order to assure the correct cut. The US counterparts just use slightly different machines, which leave no hole. In the past the US factory used to plug those holes, but it's been a while since we've undertaken that process."
I e-mailed him back for clarification. Apparently the Corona plant used to use a CNC machine that left a similar hole, which was filled in for a time, and then not filled in, and now they use a different machine in Corona that doesn't leave the hole."

I've heard that, for a small fee (including shipping both ways), Fender will add the hole for you.
Fortunately, not only did mine come with the tone hole, it was replete with a sticker as well.
