Fender Bassman 100T - chapter 2

Since my 100T is in my lounge for practising I have occasionally accidentally left it on all day, during our very hot summer. When I arrive home it has been quite warm and the fan is running but there have been absolutely no problems.

This first picture: I just turned it on:

note that the output power lights are all off...

UN plug it, take out all the tubes and replace in different order expect for PI tube. Also fuses may not look bad but can be. Ohm meter is the only way to tell. If that doesn't work take it back to the dealer.

I already did it. Read the previous threads. Didn't work. Yesterday I opened the amp, no visible estructural damages, but found another fuse in a board, that I checked with ohm meter too, it's ok.

You have a multimeter so you must know something about electronics. If you really want to get into it disconnect the chassis from the cab so you can work on it and check all the taps from the transformer and terminal boards, switch connections. Sounds like one of the filament voltages isn't getting to the tube section. Could also be a cold solder joint somewhere.

All I can think of is many years ago when I first started playing we'd just grab a Fender or any other tube head and plug in a cab without worrying about ohms. Just always made sure we had a cab connected before coming off standby.

Most of those amps were pretty forgiving considering the amount of abuse we put the through. I can guarantee there were impedance mismatches going on from time to time. LOL

Thankfully things are better now and we are more tech savvy. So are the manufacturers.

I ran my V4B at 8 ohms through a svt 4 ohm cab for 10 years without ever an issue....I think thge issue is the other way around that we need to worry about

EDIT sorry answered before seeing the next 2 pages

One important thing to remember .... There are high voltages inside any tube amp that can KILL YOU! Certain precautions must be taken before and while working on a tube amp. If you are familiar with them that's OK. If not, better to take it to a repair center.

Wow. Its crazy how intense that board is. Its blows my mind all that innards equals sweet tone bliss:) Love this amp. She loves the neon 610 but also gonna get her an NV115 (MAYBE 2). Tim.... I think u might have mentioned it but how does she sound thru nv215? The new 115 will have a new driver tho but same 6".

Tube question for my 100t

I have had to replace a 12AT7 as it was 'noisy' in the words of the tech when I brought it in for an intermittent SHHHHHHHHHHHH sound. It started with a thhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound.

Now that the 'bad' tube is gone I can hear the thhhhhhhh starting again.

I replaced the factory one with an 'electro-harmonic' tube. (has 'russia' on the end flap!) The local shop said they were an improvement over the originals.

Are these any good? My local shop says they don't carry C Wing so it would be easiest to get a set of these, but if they are questionable I will just order the tubes myself instead.

Thoughts on the 'russian' tubes?

BP.

I guess I have been the lucky one with Fender customer service. I called them about a problem removing my phase inverter tube to replace it with different one. The rep couldn't answer my question on the spot, so he got the guy who engineered the amp to email me within about an hour of the call.. Just now I got a follow up
email to check and see if my problem was resolved. Probably some of the most attentive customer service I have received from any amp company.

What number did you initially call?

Sounds great through the NV215, although lacks the same visual appeal of the neo 610. The Super Bassman really does sing with the NV215. I like the fifteens with the precision but the jazz really does sing into the 610. I too am seriously considering the new Berg 115 for the 100T. I do have a GK neo 115 but while it sounds great in the lounge with the 100T it tends to bloom a bit on gigs, something which happens far less with the sealed Bergs.

Latest e mail from fender customer service, the guy apologizes for the trouble with the PI tube, sends me a free set of strings for my trouble...with LOUD technologies, I am happy if they pick up the phone. And all this from Fender on a Saturday afternoon.

Really nothing to bitch about insofar as service, quite the opposite.
