Fender Bassman 100T - chapter 2

For anyone using this head with a single 15":

is this combination loud enough (clean, vintage mode)for a five piece band? I'd like to not have to go with the 300, but clean volume is a must. Most of the time I will have FOH support, but not always.

Had another successful outing with the 100T yesterday. Played 3 services at my church - two on rhythm guitar and one on bass. Used the 100T for both purposes, and ran direct in silent recording mode - no cab. Guitar was a USA Strat, bass was my MIJ Precision. No effects or other processing. The Strat in particular sounded unreal - both of the other guitar players just stood their shaking their head at how good the tone was. Just put the vintage channel gain on 8, EQ to taste and go.

If guitar players ever figure out how great this head is, you'll never find one in stock again. :)

So I have a strange almost glass like rattling going on in my 100T. It stops when you lift the head off the cab or in this case I put some foam under the head. Any ideas? A tube? They aren't loose?

Microphonic preamp tube is my guess. Fire up the amp and "lightly" tap each tube with a chopstick, pencil, or similar object. If it's a microphonic tube, you'll hear it.

I received my new 100T today! I'm at work, so it's sitting patiently in my truck awaiting 5:00 :/.

Reading over the manual, I am very impressed with the capabilities of the bias system. Doesn't need matched power tubes! I guess I'll stick in the 4 GE 6L6GC's I have that I pulled from a free Hammond I rescued a couple years back! I'll do a pair at a time to see if they are any good.

Hopefully they test good and I can use them :)

The 25watt feature is awesome as well. It seems that Fender has thought of everything and created the tube amp of the future. I plan on using it for guitar when I finally buy one again after years of bass only. 25 watts into an Ampeg SVT210AV should make a great low volume bass rig AND a good bedroom guitar amp!

I use mine with two 3015's.
One 15 with a clean tone will never cut it.
Get two, or even better get a 50 pound Greenboy Dually.

Sounds sweet!!! I love it! Vintage channel sounds great, and the overdrive is awesome as well being able to use the footswitch. I see myself adding more tonally to the band with the overdrive.. Maybe toss in some grit here and there when the time is right :)

Preamp tubes are in route - Early 60's Philips/Amperex and a blackplate 50's RCA.. Just got to decide which goes in V1 and which goes in V2.

denton57 - are you going to swap out the PI and/or the power tubes also? Edit: I see you have some 6l6GCs from an organ. Would love to hear how those turn out.

I put an early 60's GE longplate in V1 and a 60's RCA 12AT7WA in the PI. New SED Winged "C" 6L6GCs for power. Really digging the tone. I really don't use the overdrive enough to justify a NOS tube for V2, so that one is still stock.
