Thanks, guys! Really appreciate all the great help and tips here. I'll order new tubes later today and can't wait to find out if the original tubes are the problem here or not.

I will have to order new fuses too, right?

Anyone else annoyed at the design of the spring loaded handles? .. The handle ( when lifted) hits the handle housing and chipped the paint on the handle. Know what I'm talkin? It just agitates me to have chipped paint on my 1500$ head. I worked hard for it!!!!

P***ed me off too! What a crap design. The paint chipped off straight away. A first class amp should have a better design than that.

My new Winged "C" power tubes and my Bassman NEO 410 are here with practice tonight. At first, I'm just going to hook up the cab to get used to it. I may go on an off night to do the tube swap without tge whole band playing.

Hi all - finally had an opportunity to stretch the legs of my 100T/410 Neo. This video was taken at an outdoor service at my church yesterday. Not the most technical bass part, but I think you can hear the tone of the amp. Playing with a pick, amp in 100W mode, vintage channel settings are 6-6-6, with preamp and master volumes at 5. I did a retube, so this is a NOS GE longplate 12AX7 in V1, NOS RCA 12AT7 for the PI, and Winged "C" 6L6GCs for power tubes. Bass is a Fender classic series 70s Precision (MIJ).

Hope you can hear (and enjoy) the bass tone! I certainly had a great time playing in front of the amp. Please excuse my singing. :D

This is interesting. After having Winged Cs and JJ pre tubes in my 100T I put back in the original Groove Tubes for an experiment. I think I actually prefer the GTs now! Just a little more open up top which I like and slightly less thick all round. Two sides of the same coin but I think I will leave the Groove Tubes in for a while.

Really enjoyed the NEO 410 tonight. The Fender cabs are just designed to match up nicely with these heads. When we took a break at rehearsal, I went ahead and put the Winged C's in. Definitely seemed to give the amp a little more headroom. I found myself turning up the drive to get the same amount of grit. Really happy with this rig!

hey NOLA,
I've been experimenting with tubes for my 100t and what I have discovered, to a bit of surprise, is how immediately noticable and different the various 12ax7s I've tried sound.
add in the combination of trying different tubes in ch1 and ch2 (i found highly perceptible differences between tubes by observing their overdrive sound) and you will have plenty of experimental variety to enjoy (hopefully).

peas!

Yes, this amp does show up the differences between tubes more than other heads I have owned. I must say I am surprised to find that I am still preferring the original Groove Tubes over the Winged Cs and JJs I replaced them with last year. The Winged Cs combo definitely had more clean headroom but the GTs are more open and transparent which suits me as I also own the Super Baseman 300 for headroom.

Makes sense since you have the 300 too!

What did you think of the JJ"s and how they impacted the sound?

Thanks. I'm curious what you found in regards to trying some other tubes on channel 2.

I think I will be ordering this head in the next 2 weeks.. Is the cream/oxblood version a limited run or an actual option? I'm just buying a head at first, so I'd like to know the matching cab would be available in the future.

The auto bias is awesome and the more I read about it, I think about the 4 GE 6L6GC's I pulled out of a Hammond organ a few years ago. I've been sitting on them for a while, and I have no idea if they work or are even close to matching. I was thinking this head could tell me if I stick them in. If the light goes red, then that tube is bad. If they all stay green, then I can save some big bucks on upgrading to NOS USA tubes.

Thoughts? I've been told that the best tube tester is an actual amp. In this case, it has auto bias and lights to verify.
