Fender Bassman head (old one)

I had the 50 watt version with a single 15" speaker cab. I must be one of the odd old guys, because I really liked that amp (yes I gigged with it a couple of times - classical and 40's big band stuff) and it worked fine. I also lent it to a friend to use for a high school concert his band played and it was plenty loud enough for the gym playing 70's rock (in the 70's :D). It was my first new bass amp. I also never had to change tubes in the 5 years that I owned it.

If $800 is typical for a $400 amp in Russia, then it is probably a decent price (comparitively speaking).

I do not have any model yet. But I'm thinking of getting one.

Askesth, and ye shall receiveth.

They have piles of these things. No prices on anything, so do your homework first.

To be honest, only music stores practice morbid price extension in our country, e.g. a new fender american standard precision costs around 2200$. Used gear goes fore reasonable prices. I'll keep in mind that it's actually around 400$ in US. And I forgot to notice that I'm playing some sorta blend of hard rock, blues rock and progressive.

OP, I love the tone of these. It's one of my favorites. Whether it will work for you depends on your situation. It's not gonna carry the room at a medium size gig without a mountain of speakers....or being mic'd through the PA. I have no clue what the market is like in Russia. Newer SS stuff doesn't have the tone of these things but plenty of it can sound good and is a lot more powerful/louder.

Russia is the world capital of tubes. Must be something good there. All I've heard are Sovtek's but ones made for high gain guitar. Wouldn't be loud enough clean enough for bass and I'm not sure how "russian" they actually are..

Best way I could explain it would be with a typical 215 or other cab of similair SPL they can do blues/r&b/country/motown for about 50-60 people with solid bass out in the room. Hard rock maybe half that. After that point you start getting lost in the mix more and more as the venue/audience gets bigger without some help from a PA.

Ampeg's V4b which is also a 100 watt amp can handle a little more. Bigger output transformer...more heft in the lows and a bit sweeter sounding breakup so you can turn it up a little more without sounding too harsh...again with 215/412 or some other big loud cab.

IME of course. I like the bassman for it's round bouncy "warm but fairly clean" tone. It's distortion sounds harsh to me on bass. Plug a guitar into it and it's beautiful. Mine is my guitar amp now.

It's only 5350 miles away from me. Totally seems like a good option.

Sorry, didn't see that you were int'l. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they shipped overseas. It might take some doing, but I'm sure HOG could get you what ever you want in perfect working condition. Their tech has been working there since the 1970's.

FWIW -- If you do call HOG, ask for Bruce -- he is one of the owners and by far the most knowledgeable.
