Fender Custom Shop Calendar Basses

Just go to your local Fender authorized retailer and tell them you want to order a custom shop bass.
As for the second question, lots.
So i could essentially go to GC and say, "hey 'Chad', quit playing bar chords on that PRS and help me order a $25,000 Fender Jazz bass like the one in the calendar"?
Tempting....it almost makes my next first year of college seem obsolete... who needs education when you have a Custom Shop '62 jazz bass with hula dancers painted on it (and matching amp)

You might want to go through a dealer that specializes and handles a lot of CS instruments if you want to order a Masterbuilt.

I've talked about this with a Fender rep ones and, although I can't remember exactly how much he said it would be, it sure wasn't excessive. I'm pretty sure it was sort of the same amount you would spend at a custom bass from another luthier and for a moment there I seriously considered it. In the end I decided it wasn't for me because I wasn't comfortable with ordering something that specific (I knew exactly what I wanted) through mail from overseas when I could get that locally whit the benefits of talking to the luthier and checking in now and again.
Those 25.000 Usd pieces are made for collectors, not for players so that's a totally different animal.

Googling got me a whole bunch of Custom Shop instruments for around 3000/3500 Usd. I think if you want something special that's not in the catalogue you might have to ad some waiting time to that but I don't see why a custom order would be more expensive than 3500. Although that's a lot of money, for a custom job that seems about fair, right?
The custom bass scene as you put it is extremely variable price wise.
A friend of mine that ordered a master built Strat paid $5200 for it. And what is a Fred board, does it have anything to do with Wilma?
Keep your eye on the talkbass classifieds. Chances are that what you want isnt that uncommon and could be purchased used, right here for a good price.
We're fortunate in N.W. Indiana, we have Roxy Music, in Laporte, In. that does Fender Custom shop orders all the time. They even have some custom shop instruments in stock, so you can get an idea of the custom shop instruments quality. Really beautiful guitars and basses, just have your "big bucks" ready. They do on line orders, if you can't find a local dealer. Really nice folks, and always a pleasure to deal with. I've also gotten some great deals through them.
I want a black Fender Precision V with a rosewood board and a tort guard. I asked why the assembler couldn't just walk a rosewood board over to a black body: zip, zip , zip, zip, screw it on and send it to me.
Nope, black only comes w/maple board...you'd have to go custom which adds 5-600 bucks just to put that sticker on the back of the headstock.
Now its Oly-white w/ rosewood, or black w/ maple.
Fender wants to sell the inventory they have...that's about it.
Tried all the other 5's, just love the P-sound.
Did the math on Warmoth too, about 250.00 difference without body & neck paint. Almost a wash.

For custom shops, you either get what they have available, like the custom classics or such, or you ARE going to pay something like 5K+ for your very specific specs.
Do not confuse what they put out all the time versus teambuilts and masterbuilts. And I don't see many masterbuilts coming up in the classifieds.

P.Aaron, sounds like you need to find someone who wants the opposite cpolour/neck combo and buy 2 and play swapsies on the necks/guards.
OP your bass spec sounds an aweful lot like the steve harris sig, I'd always be tempted to warmoth it or buy a fender which is as close as possible while standard and then mod it to your liking

If you need a specific combo and want actual Fender parts, just go on eBay. There are always guys chopping and selling the actual fender parts, you can piece together anything you want. You pay a little more but you can get just what you want and be assured they are Fender parts.
