Fender told me I can not get cs pickups unless mine are broken and I have to be the original owner and send the bad pickup in? I called cause I wanted to buy custom shop pickups that are in my cs. hand wound. Have you heard the same thing?

I haven't heard that, but I can't say it surprises me.

Taking the fiesta red to rehearsal tonight, then off to a couple corporate and private events! When comparing my stack knob and the fiesta red (seen above), it’s interesting how different the circuits sound. They are both strung with Labella IMA’s. The stack knob is louder, but the fiesta red is more aggressive.

I’ve gotten an offer on a "holy grail" FCS ’62 Jazz in the exact color, finish, and specs I’ve been after.

The deal brings it in around used pricing for a new bass, but it’s 9.8 lbs.

If it were lighter, I think it'd be a no-brainer, but I keep going back and forth.

Would you pull the trigger or hold out for one closer to 9 lbs?

Unfortunately not. I do think the Res-O-Lites were a great recommendation, though.

Going to sleep on it another day. If I do pull the trigger, I'll likely go that route and add an extra inch to my strap.

Good luck. I found Res-O-Lites really helpful on one of my CS Jazz basses.

Yeah. My fiesta red 63 jazz CS has res o lites and it’s very well balanced. Played it at rehearsal last night… no shoulder pain!

If you get it, I recommend the x finish Res-O-Lites. Perfect finish for a older/relic bass.

In the end, I actually found a slightly lighter copy that a dealer was also willing to price match. Happy to be joining the club!

A question for the club: I have two CS basses -- A 1960 Time Machine Jazz Bass and one of the "Pro" P-Basses with the Gretsch pickup. I'm delighted with the Jazz, and feel it puts my other J-Basses in the shade in terms of delivering vintage tones. The question is, do you think I'd hear such a significant improvement with a CS Precision over my other American Ps (AmStd, AmPro I and II, AO '60s, Nash PB-57)? Or is a P-Bass just a P-Bass?

I guess I'm a little late to the party. I can't swear the CS's sound better, but, in general, they always seem to sound better and smoother even with the non-hand wound CS pickups. The two CS P's I have and three CS J's I previously had never had any dead spots or weak sounding G strings. I will say emphatically that they "feel" worlds better. However, if the P Bass you have now sounds and feels good to you, keep it.
