Thanks for sharing your experience! I know what you mean about the feel of a CS. My CS '60 Jazz Bass is superior to the other J-Basses I own in that regard. (It sounds great, too.)

But....How do you explain my Custom Shop 60s Jazz bass pickups?
My Custom Shop 62 Precision bass pickups
and....my Custom Shop 60s Precision pickup AKA American Standard 2012 to 2016?
All bought at stores....except the CS60s
I might be wrong, but I don’t think those are hand wound like he wants.
When I was chasing down the specs with Fender directly for my CS 64 Jazz the part numbers were different for the ones sold separately and labeled as "Custom Shop" pickups. On custom builds the two main types are "VINT" which are not hand wound, and "HW" which are. Further, the VINT J-Bass pickups installed on custom builds use Alnico 2 magnets and the ones sold online directly as "Custom Shop Custom '60s Jazz Bass" use Alnico 5 magnets.
TI’s are ideal for yout bass, I’ve had them on mine for going on 40 years the neck really likes them. I’was wondering if you ordered a Tobacco Sunburst I.e. the 57 Precision Basses vs the Three Tone like mine.
I bought mine "off the rack" so to speak; I didn't order it. I don't think they called it tobacco sunburst, but just two tone sunburst. I think tobacco burst is a more brown than the black edge. I believe '58 was when Fender started to transition to three tone, but two tone still stayed around for a couple of years. Others are probably more knowledgeable than me.
I'm selling my CS '64 Jazz Bass in the classifieds. When it sells, I was going to use bubble wrap inside the case to brace it during shipping. I know about the stands and nitro issues, but I just read that bubble wrap can harm nitro.
Can't seem to find out if it's safe to wrap the bass in old cotton t-shirts and then pack the bubble wrap around it. Anyone know?

Has anyone had any experience with FCS warranty department? My FCS Precision that I purchased new last August has the typical dead spots on the G string (C through D). Of course this didn't really become a problem until I got into the studio. I've already had this bass to a competent luthier for a set up with my current strings. I've asked them to try and correct the issue; no luck.
Here's the thing... I had the same issue on a MIM P bass. It was $450 so no big deal. I've also owned (2) Nash PB-63s that didn't have that issue. Maybe that is because the necks have more heft than either of my Fender Ps. Now here I am with a $5000 instrument that does not sustain evenly across the instrument. I'm really hoping they can do something to help. In the mean time, I purchased a Fat Finger that is helping (just enough).

I've had five Fender CS's, P's and J's, and never had the dead spot issue. Could the strings have anything to do with it? I've had it on other Fenders, but it disappeared when I started using TI Flats.
Hey, whats up guys. Has anyone ordered a Custom Shop to spec and negotiated the price with the shop you bought it from? Just filled out the order form, spoke to my salesman, and he his sending it to his Custom Shop rep for a quote.

NBD! '66 Custom Shop Precision in flash-coat lacquer "Super Aged Sage Green Metallic" with a flamed roasted maple neck. The pickguard is an old Spitfire I had laying around. Sounds awesome.
This is just my opinion but I think a FCS bass should have covers on it.

I got this last week. It's my first Custom Shop bass. I like it. I'd probably love it if the plug stayed in the jack and the D string didn't buzz. Im gonna replace the knobs with 'dome' knobs and try to find an accurately shaped aftermarket wooden tug bar.

The green is VERY dark so it really looks black on most of the pictures but with the right lighting it is gorgeous!
