Personally I like using the gaskets out of Grolsch beer bottles. That or rubber gaskets you can find at your local hardware store.

I put Dunlops on every bass I buy. If the original Fender screw fits, I will use it sometimes shaving the head down if needed.
Also can someone point me to good care instructions/ Do's and Don'ts for nitro finishes. I know they can be a bit fragile

well i just shipped to me and I left it in its box and it's still sitting in the jam space. So it was warmed up a slowly as possible.

Thanks. Yes, this way you can keep your bass completely stock . Unscrew the strap button, place the gasket on it, then your strap, reattach and you’re good to go.
I've read that some straps can damage the finish if left up against it, anything to that?
I’ve never heard of that. The gasket is not touching the finish. If that’s what you mean. Should look like this.
I like the NOS look of my CS's. I've always put a coat of P21S auto wax on my CS basses when they were new. It's wax only with no abrasives or cleaners. You wipe it on and wipe it off right away. There are other brands like it; I just happen to use that one. The key is to find one that has no cleaners, just wax. I've done it once on each bass; it's not an ongoing thing. I'd stay away from Fender, Gibson, Martin, etc. guitar polish because they all (even Martin now) contain silicone which, I understand, is not good for Nitro finishes.
Don't keep it sitting or hanging on a stand with black foam "bumpers". The foam will eat away the finish. Wrap cotton around your stands or use Sadowsky Nitro Guards. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
I would also recommend against leaving the strap on when in a case.
Outside of that, Nitro is really not bad to care for.
BTW, all of my basses have been either hanging on black foam hangers or sitting in a guitar stand. Some of these basses with nitro finishes have been hanging or have been on a guitar stands for over 10-15 years. I keep my house at 70 degrees year round and I have never had a problem with any of the finishes. They are all perfect.
I have had my white CS 1960 J in a stand and there are marks on the bottom from the black foam. Most of it cleaned off but a lite stain was left behind.

Sorry to hear that. What kind of temps has your bass been exposed? I have a nitro Mary Kaye white finish which has been with me during a few hot outdoor shows. These are 5 hour gigs with about 15 minute breaks in between 45 minute sets. During the breaks my bass is in its stand which does have the black foam padding, however it’s never been left in direct sunlight.
Technically, it isn't because canauba is actually rock solid, so there are additives to soften it up. But, yes, it's all advertised as 100% carnauba, so that is what you want. Stay away from the stuff with "cleaners" because they are abrasive.
