No; it's that the bass has relic wear on the body and Fender's records and the COA state that it is NOS. It's possible that the bass mistakenly got the relic treatment, but that and the fact that the store still has it after 12+ years leaves me wondering ...

That looks like a '58 AVRI. I tried the new '50s American Original at a music store but did not like the neck at all (too fat). So, I am thinking I will not like the '58 AVRI as well.

Sorry, my mistake. I did mean to say that it is a 58 RI.

I thought that the Custom Shop finishes could vary a bit from the shop even with the same model. I've seen that before, and the two identical black 2013 CS closet classic P basses I have are a bit different in the finish. One has the closet classic nitro "crackle/checking" finish as well as a bit of aging on the hardware and the other has no checking at all and the hardware is clean. (pics of the two in this thread in post #1133) I've also seen pics of other basses of the exact model of mine that vary like mine do.

Can I have #59 please? Thanks! These are the 2103 Fender CS Closet Classic Precision Bass Pro model. Each has a pair of Seymour Duncan CS 51 P-Bass stack pickups (Same pup as the CS Dusty Hill), RSD Bridge and quartersawn neck. Sounds amazing with TI Jazz flats. I liked the first one so much that I bought another thinking I might put some rounds, tapewounds, or maybe a fretless neck on it. They came stock with the white pickguard, which I didn't like very much, so I removed the guard and added ABM chrome control plates. Please excuse the crappy pics...I need to learn to take good photos like most of you.

They say it's in the same condition as when they received it from Fender. Anyway, their offer for the bass was more than I had in mind, hence my request to the TB community.

Just got this Custom Shop '59 Journeyman Relic Precision Bass that I ordered back in July. It really is everything I wanted it to be. After owning many AVRI P bass, as well as a USA Lakland 44-64, I can honestly say that this is the best bass purchase I have made. The neck is awesome...I ordered with a 60's soft C shape, and it feels great...Especially with the light relic job on it. The pickups are hand wound '62's and they sound huge. I'm not crazy about the tort Fender is using for their Custom Shop pieces, so I'll probably swap it out with a Spitfire in the near future. These basses just have some sort of magic you just can't get in production Fender stuff these days. Im really enjoying it.

Indeed, all the CS stuff seems to be the definition of the "Fender sound" that many recognize.

Can anyone comment on the neck profile difference between the 2005 NAMM '58 CS Precision and the 59 CS Precisions? What I understand is that the NAMM bass will have a beefier neck and soft V profile whereas the 59 CS will have a less beefy neck and shallow C profile? If you have or had both basses, which do you prefer?

I currently have a 58 CS Namm p and a 60s CS p bass. The neck on the 58 is much beefier. I did have a 59 custom shop bass and it feels the same as the neck on my 60s CS bass as far as I can tell. I myself prefer the neck on the 58. It feels much thicker than the 59 front to back. I do know some people like the necks better on the 59 and later CS basses to the thicker necks of the 58.

Oh btw what do you guys do for strap locks? Do you remove the ones that came on the bass or will they take a strap lock and if so what kind? Thanks...
I've always used Dunlops in the past.
