Fender custom shop postmodern precision-jazz bass

Hi All!

Here is this new bass from fender custom shop for 2015:

Ok, they did not reinvent the wheel, but i think it's a great combination of features, especially for who (like me) prefer jazz stile necks....and since i'm currently looking for a precision bass, i'm thinking about this one. Does anyone already had the possibility to try one?
Anyway...what's your impression looking at the specs?

The U shaped necks are on the 74 AVRI.....I personally dont like them they are very chunky front to back....and the 7.25 radius makes it almost round! like a club!
I guess if thats your thing! but its totally different from a modern C thin jazz neck.

Looks like the marketing team put some hard work into this one:

"...elegantly designed with a reappraisal of modern assumptions..."

Also, can something be "thoroughly contemporary"? Or very contemporary? Or just a little contemporary?

The 74 AVRI U shaped neck has blocks and binding! this is an all new U shape neck with just dots! and its quatersawn......and it has a custom shop decal! probably a custom shop neck plate too!
Its going to be like a custom classic....a custom shop production bass.

oh wait I just read it it has the old F neck plate!

It features a '60s "U", the same one the '64s have, not a '70s era "U" - quite a different kettle of fish.

I tried the ones they had displayed at NAMM in January, took a few photos:

Didn't plug them in (no amps close by) but they seemed pretty nice, about what you'd expect. The only "disappointment" was they seemed a bit heavier than I expected, each felt like at least 9.5 lbs., and I can't really blame the chrome covers because the Fender AVRIs in the "regular" display next to them also had covers but felt a bit lighter. But otherwise they seemed really nice. I'd check them out.

Actually i'm thinking about a custom order (teal green metallic with mint green pickguard and clay dots) so, since i'm going to make a custom order i could also change some other little things according to the custom shop order form...
my only puzzle is about the neck shape...i tried several P and J (but not a J with U shape) and for sure i prefer 1,5" nuts and i love my 62AVRI jazz neck but i also like to have a bit more of chunky compared to that one (considering also that, with 1,5" nut, it can't be too much chunky...i mean, it should be proportional to the width...) then there is the radius..7,25" or 9,5" ?
Mastermold: What was your feeling about that neck?
strange about the weight...they declare to use selected lightweight alder on these models..

Wildwood has one of these basses on its arsenal and actually the weight is 9.03 lbs....i wonder what's the reason considering that, according to the specs, they provides selected lightweight alder bodies...maybe the new bridge? there are other CS basses with "normal" bodies which weigh less...

This is pretty much exactly what I was going to post. I don't really see what's even modern about this, let alone "postmodern". Precision body with a Jazz neck and high mass bridge? It's a parts bass from 20+ years ago. As for the NOS...just sounds like marketing. Is it a highlight that they're using old, unopened cans of finish? If it were a "historic" type model and they were using all NOS parts, that might be something. There just doesn't seem to be much substance to this to me, at least not enough to get excited about.
