Fender Customshop??? Purple Sparkle!

Hi guys,

I need your help with this. I bought this bass and it has some mysterious stamps and marks in the neck pocket and neck. The color of the body is purple sparkle/metallic. The pickups and pots are crappy. Schaller tuners and bridge (no 5-holes under schaller bridge..). Could be a body order. Matching headstock with Fender logo and customshop decal. Neck does have a truss rod. I guess its a fat D-shaped neck. The fretless fingerboard is really beautiful! Back of neck is shaved. Brass top. Alder body! Heavy bass.

Very interesting bass. If you look at the neck pocket and neck stamps, you can see the early red customshop stamp with the date 11-92. Also a 1-33 mark on the neck. The body has the seventies 3-bolt neck plate. Are these marks and stamps fake or not?

Thanks!!

The back of the headstock where it morphs into the neck screams fake for me. Fender usually sculpt that nicely, the Custom Shop would never leave that ugly heel there.

The stamp looks like this stamp. I can see the letters 'Fender USA' in the stamp in my bass. In this picture you see two stamps. The second, more blurred, looks like the one I have.

Headstock shape is wrong, neck volute is wrong, Schaller tuners cut down to fit the HS, decal is wrong, fingerboard looks poorly done. 4 bolt neck converted to 3 bolt. Body may not be, but neck is not Fender.
Cool color though.

Hope you didn't pay too much, and can get it back.

I know Fender customshop uses schallers tuners on their guitars, like this one. It also has no truss-rod coming out of the truss-rod hole, like the jazz bass. The Schaller tuners on my jazz bass are indeed cut down. Also the headstock is been reshaped. It is possible the previous owner(s) did some reshape work.
