Fender Customshop??? Purple Sparkle!

If FCS used Schallers, they wouldn't have cut them so awkwardly
If a prior owner reshaped the headstock, why would they modify it just enough to still be vaguely fender-shaped but just off-proportion like many knockoffs are
Reshaping the headstock would have required a repaint, so that headstock logo is an aftermarket decal
The fretboard obviously had the original frets pulled out by an amateur

if this thing isn't a fake (and it is), its previous owner had zero regard for retaining its value

If its a customshop, the previous owner reshaped the headstock and the tuners. Hey, it could be!
The neck is smaller than a standard fender jazz bass neck. I could be a reshaped without repaint. Thats possible.
I really don't think the neck was been defretted, it looks perfect. It is a very good neck.

Hi guys,

I need your help with this. I bought this bass and it has some mysterious stamps and marks in the neck pocket and neck. The color of the body is purple sparkle/metallic. The pickups and pots are crappy. Schaller tuners and bridge (no 5-holes under schaller bridge..). Could be a body order. Matching headstock with Fender logo and customshop decal. Neck does have a truss rod. I guess its a fat D-shaped neck. The fretless fingerboard is really beautiful! Back of neck is shaved. Brass top. Alder body! Heavy bass.

Very interesting bass. If you look at the neck pocket and neck stamps, you can see the early red customshop stamp with the date 11-92. Also a 1-33 mark on the neck. The body has the seventies 3-bolt neck plate. Are these marks and stamps fake or not?

Thanks!!

This is NOT a Fender Custom Shop bass. Period.

Which 'red flags' do you see?

I can tell you the red flags I see
1. Fender has never used tuners that say "Schaller" on them. They either say "Fender" or they say nothing.
2. The neck stamp isn't a stamp. Fender doesn't do that
3. The neck has been defretted. A production lined fretless Fender neck is much neater looking (a better job was done)
4. The custom shop decal on the back of the headstock is all wrong. If it were real, you wouldn't be able to see straight edges on it.
5. The decal on the front is all wrong (wrong placement and shape)
6. The finish was not done by Fender. Too sloppy in the neck pocket.
7. Headstock is the wrong shape and doesn't look like it was shaved down, but rather just wrong from the beginning.
8. The string retainer is not Fender
9. There is nothing Fender about this bass. If there was, it would have a serial number, which I don't see.

In conclusion, I don't think this bass has one piece on it that was made by Fender.

I'm no expert but I don't like the look of that decal. I'm looking forward to seeing myself.
Is that a custom shop sticker?
Headstock shape is wrong, neck volute is wrong, Schaller tuners cut down to fit the HS, decal is wrong, fingerboard looks poorly done. 4 bolt neck converted to 3 bolt. Body may not be, but neck is not Fender.
The red stamp on your one looks like it was drawn by hand in red marker. The shape isn't consistent and the USA you can make out is clearly done by hand. I hope you didn't spend much on it.
No, they don't draw stamps by hand. Sorry to say, but my money would be on this not even being a Fender, never mind a Custom Shop. It looks like a parts bass which someone tried to make look like a FCS.

Fender customshop does all colors, even the sparkle finishes.
The pots could have been changed, if customshop. So there you go: some cloth wiring and plastic wiring. The pots are unknown for me. Anyone recognize the stamped logo on the pots?
I removed the shielding aluminium tape out of the cutting hole.

You removed the shielding? It will probably buzz now. Anyway, those are mini pots which Fender only used on Japan Fender stuff. There is no Custom Shop for Fender Japan. There is nothing Fender about this bass. It's a forgery, and not a very good one at that.

I know that you REALLY WANT it to be a Fender CS, but that's not the way things work. You obviously had your own reservations or you would not have come here to ask. Instead of asking the same question in different ways, heed the answers that have already been given. Most of these guys have been around a long time and know what a CS looks or does not look like.

Just relaxt. I had some questions. Some people give their opinions, that's ok, and thanks! That's all.

Put your heart away and open your mind. This is not a Fender CS. If you can, go get all or some of your money back. If you spent more than a few hundred on this you got robbed. If you spent a few hundred, and it plays great, keep it and rock it. Please PLEASE do not try to sell this as a Fender CS. That would be wrong because you have been told.

FYI you come across rude as hell so I am shocked anyone has even bothered to help you.

Its not even a fender shaped headstock, who would reshape a Fender CS headstock? No one. Or have to shave down the G string tuner plate to fit them on the headstock. Let alone take out what would of been CTS pots and throw in some Chinese electronics, but they do match the rest of the bass which is likely a Chinese made $100 bass with some repaint, guard and schaller bridge. Worth $200 if that.
