Fender Decals On Non-Fender Basses

Mighty Mite DOES have a licence directly from Fender to sell Fender Necks.

Not really, they have a license to manufacture and sell necks using the tradmarked Fender headstock shape...big difference. They aren't Fender necks, they only have the headstock shape.

Warmoth and Allparts have similar licensing agreements to manufacture and sell necks using the tradmarked Fender headstock shape.

I think I'll put a Cadillac emblem on a Geo Metro since they are both GM products. That would look so cool, and it would be totally legit! ;)

Hey! I used to own one of those! It was called a Cimarron. GM actually put the Cadillac logo on there for me. The emblem was crappy plastic, however, and was gone by the time the car died.

To decide if it was totally legit, you'd have to pass judgment on how GM put themselves into bankruptcy.

:)

The thing that pisses off the people against this is how hard the ones who do it work at justifying it. I really don't care much what anyone does, but the ridiculous justifications here get me going. Especially the "pay tribute" crap. What else do these people pay tribute to? It's a cheesy, dishonest thing to do that you wouldn't even think of doing if you were fine with yourself, your playing, and your finances. If ya want to do it, do it.

There are so many circular-logic arguments being posted in this thread. And, they're all the same used in the last nearly-identical thread.

I play Fender basses but just bought a Squier VM P. I briefly considered putting a Fender decal on it but gave that up because I don't need to prove anything to anybody regarding what basses I play. An old aquaintance heard me play the other night and said something like ".... what are you doing playing a Squier." Kind of pissed me off. For what it is worth, my bass has upgraded pup, pots and jack. It sounds very good to me. It looks great to me too. I love it and am proud of it. Snobery pisses me off. Bob

Hilarious...I go to buy some gear from CL a few hours ago and I was playing the guys bass through the cabinets I was looking at....the headstock had "Fender" on the headstock...no other verbiage...I turn it around and the neck plate said "Squier".....but since I could tell the difference between a legit Fender and a Squier I could care less. Just thought it was funny since this thread blew up today.

You find it funny that someone tried to rip you off?

I put a fender decal on my old nash bass as I got sick of explaining to people about the bass. It's a personal preference. Unless it's done in an attempt to pass off a bass as vintage why should anyone care what someone else does to their bass?

I bought a Squier VM Jazz off of a guy on craigslist. The guy put a fender logo on it. I'm probably going to remove it and leave it without a logo.

I don't really care if some uneducated gear snob has something to say about me playing a Squier and I think its pretty lame to try and pass one off as a Fender.

I'm sure it's probably been mentioned already, but just in case...

How many of you guys have sanded Sadowsky off your basses to put the Fender logo? You know, to pay homage to Fender for coming up with the idea? A tribute.

Burlington, when you do this I'll change my mind about everything I've said in this thread. As soon as anyone does this, I'll change my mind... and guess what....

none of you will.

I guarantee it.

Similar to this post but maybe a better topic, should I report that the NEX is selling Fender Starcasters(some sort of off-short strat copy with the fender name on the headstock)??? Or are these actually legit? I've never seen Fenders sold outside of the US so I have no clue.

Yup I won't, they don't have Fender headstocks.
