Fender Deluxe PJ Bass

I don't think that any of the Jags put the P pickup in the right place but maybe that is not important to you. The pricing of this special run does seem wrong. They don't have a specs/features list published yet so maybe there is something there that justifies the price. Based on the little I know now I would vastly prefer either a Reggie Hamilton Standard Jazz for the same price, or the Deluxe P Bass Special for $200 less over this one. I'm guessing a limited edition MIM bass isn't really going to have enough collector value to justify a premium price.

Except that Modern Player Jaguar has one of the closest to a Precision wise sound you can get, exactly like the R. Hamilton you just mentioned, which places the American Series splitcoil right where it should be (it's one of its "plus" features)

For instance, I admit I really miss my former BlackTop Jazz bass, the one with dual split coils
But you sure know its front split is nowhere near a sweetspot, whereas split on Reggie's Standard, and Modern Player Jaguar,
is right where it's supposed to be placed

Then, upgrades on the Modern Player Jaguar can be welcome, but not necessary. For mere example, it counts on a serious himass bridge, lackin' on both Reggie's (where it's one of the very first, and few, usual upgrades) and MIM active deluxe Precision Special, even last year Factory Special Run edition.

This further Limited Edition, a passive P/J, can be a better option (especially considerin' you wouldn't have any on/off switch) and sports the ever effective Leo Quann's BadAssII (worth $ 150.00 alone installation included;)) not bad at all:)

Ken, I too think they are over priced by $200-$300.

Finally! I played one of these in seafoam at GC yesterday, but wasn't able to figure out the right combination of words (using what was on the headstock and sales tag) to find this bass online.

It's so close to being my ideal PJ bass from them - just need it in 3-tone burst with a rosewood board and white blocks & binding.

Yes I think its related to the badass bridge and new strings. Im going to put some Daddarios on it soon and see if that helps. But its nothing that tone knob or EQ on the amp cant fix.

Overall Im pretty damned happy with the bass. The fit and finish are excellent for an MIM (should be for that price tag). The playability is great. The only thing Ill likely change is the bridge pickup. Im not a fan of Fenders Noiseless (toneless) pickups. Ill probably put a DiMarzio Ultra Jazz in there. I like the sound of the precision pup however, great vintage tone.

I played one of these at a GC over the weekend.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I liked it so much better than the $2,500 MM Stingray and an old Rickenbacker I also played.
It was pretty amazing.

I wish I could've bought it right there.

Played one at GC today. Thought it was the special run from last year but could not find a price tag on it at the time. The neck felt amazing. Loved the look(Sea foam green),feel and tone. Saw the price online and got a bit of sticker shock. Would buy it if I could afford it though. All around awesome bass.

Last time I asked about a GC special edition, they actually emailed me the spec sheet. But I went through email.
