Ah, I didn't realize there was a passive version.

I'm having my tattoo artist paint my pickgaurd, and now I'm not covered just a 1/2 sleeve but the guys is an amazing artist .If I do buy the passive model at GC the first thing I do is put on some D'Addario black tapewounds and a black pickguard.
Can't wait to see how that turns out.I'm having my tattoo artist paint my pickgaurd, and now I'm not covered just a 1/2 sleeve but the guys is an amazing artist .
If it sets up nicely, why not pull the guts and swap in a passive pup set instead, with a new pickguard? The EMG Geezers would be a good choice, and they come with volume and tone pots, a new output jack, and all the quick connectors.
EDIT: You could keep the stock pg, and just have the side jack be unused, or wire it using the side jack and buy a new pg.
I don't know off-hand, but I'm pretty sure they're all reamed to the same size. The only thing is that they aren't evenly spaced. A hobby shop reaming tool (used to cut round holes in lexan and abs plastic RC bodies) would be able to open the hole up a bit.Do you know if I can put a knob on the Jack hole of a 3 hole PG?
So I just got the fender deluxe pj in a fetching seafoam green, I am having my tattoo artist paint the pickgaurd with old school nautical art. (No I'm not covered in ink this guy is just a buddy and an amazing artist) anyway I'm just here to rave about this bass!!! It's amazing ! Seriously if I could design a fender this is it. LOVE the p-bass as far as I'm concerned the jazz can't hold a candle to the P! That said I hate the neck, way to big. With this bass they used a 70s jazz neck! I do love the jazz neck, plays like a indi track, super fast! The best part is its maple!! I know a lot say no diff between rosewood and maple but i can clearly hear it! It's got full p pickups with a jazz for the bridge! Also it's passive!!! I mean good god this thing is amazing! I got a killer deal on it with a bit of trickery at GC$735 out the door brand new with a rad road runner gig bag! Full p 75% tone and 25% j this thing sounds better than the few MIA I have played!!has anyone played this wonderful bass? It's a limited run, anyone know how many they made?
Nice. I'd buy it for $665. I wonder why my GC had them so high.....$899 is too high for me, too, since the GCs near me are selling them for $100 less. Take off another $135 with a coupon and it turns out to be a great price at $665!

More dissin the price of MIA. $1600.. That said my fav bass is a 77 p with maple fret.
Okay, I stopped by the Guitar Center in Totowa today and the tag on their Sea Foam Pearl Deluxe PJ Bass was $849. I showed the salesman the GC add and he said: "Sure, we'll match it."Nice. I'd buy it for $665. I wonder why my GC had them so high.....
I got mine out the door brand new for 735 with a road runner bag, PM if you want to know the way I pulled that off.I was just browsing at GC today. Looking at a used American Special Jazz Bass and saw they had 2 Seafoam green MIM Deluxe PJ's on the wall.
Plucked away with no amp and you are right about the tone out of the maple neck. What a difference between that and the Rosewood (alder?) body MIA Special Jazz. Very snappy tone on the PJ. They have them priced at $899 which to me is WAY too high for a bass I would add Ga Geezer PJ set to.
But it did feel great and sounded even better (unplugged...)

I asked about their coupon policy not being applicable to Fender products and told him I understood that wasn't exactly so. He said: "Don't believe everything you read."
Well, GC sent me a 15% off coupon a week ago...it expired Monday...but I get one every four or five weeks or so.

I'll definitely be buying one of these. The P bass pickup produces that classic deep, warm Precision tone (I had my ipod there and played along with six songs) and the Jazz pickup delivers every inch of that mean Jazz growl. Combining the two opens up plenty of possibilities and the tone control was very responsive. I was plugged into an Acoustic B100 MKII, but next time I try one of these out at a different GC I'll bring my Markbass CMD-21P and I'll bet my left eye this bass will sound even better.
If I had any complaints, they'd have nothing to do with the quality of this bass...photos can't really capture how nice the pearl paint looks and I love the neck...so I'll just say that I would love it with black hardware and a black pickguard. The first thing I'll change will be the guard and the strings. D'Addario black tapewounds will compliment this bass perfectly.
I swear, if I buy this PJ bass I'll never bother looking at another Fender again.
$849..... That must be the price I saw at my Seven Corners, Va GC.
Good to know they will match prices. Still thinking the price is too high for MIM as I can't believe I'd be happy with the pick ups. I've been too spoiled with the Geezer PJ's!
I said the same thing about never looking at another fender.... but I will own a MIA ash body maple neck at some point...Okay, I stopped by the Guitar Center in Totowa today and the tag on their Sea Foam Pearl Deluxe PJ Bass was $849. For whatever reason the instore is always 849, I had mine shipped to colorado from tx and walked 735 w/gigbagThe GC here has it at $849.00. Must be one where they think they can charge whatever the market will bear.....
