Fender deluxe PJ smokes MIA imo

So I just got the fender deluxe pj in a fetching seafoam green, I am having my tattoo artist paint the pickgaurd with old school nautical art. (No I'm not covered in ink this guy is just a buddy and an amazing artist) anyway I'm just here to rave about this bass!!! It's amazing ! Seriously if I could design a fender this is it. LOVE the p-bass as far as I'm concerned the jazz can't hold a candle to the P! That said I hate the neck, way to big. With this bass they used a 70s jazz neck! I do love the jazz neck, plays like a indi track, super fast! The best part is its maple!! I know a lot say no diff between rosewood and maple but i can clearly hear it! It's got full p pickups with a jazz for the bridge! Also it's passive!!! I mean good god this thing is amazing! I got a killer deal on it with a bit of trickery at GC $735 out the door brand new with a rad road runner gig bag! Full p 75% tone and 25% j this thing sounds better than the few MIA I have played!!has anyone played this wonderful bass? It's a limited run, anyone know how many they made?

How do the pickups sound 50/50? Same kind of quack as a regular J?

Sorry for multiple posts. Quick question - What are good tuners to upgrade to for this bass? The ONLY thing that I don't like about it is the tuners. They are super jerky/jumpy. Has anyone else had that issue or upgraded?

Sorry if that is an ignorant question. I was a drummer by trade for many years and recently started playing the bass to explore music in a different way. I don't know much about bass/guitar gear...

A couple of the tuners on mine are rough turning. I haven't messed with them to correct it. Lubrication?

Whoa. I didn't know you could get a 4 hole version. I had a Dee Dee Ramone pick guard lying around so I drilled a hole in mine but it didn't turn out so good.

It's a little too close. Might pick one up because its bothering me lol

As for the comment about tuners. Mine are smooth. No problems with mine.

I put a fifth hole in mine for a phase toggle switch. Heated up a Philip's head screwdriver and melted through from front to back.

I love tort, but if I may, I'd suggest a black pg. A couple other TB'ers have a black pg on that model, and it ties the black blocks together nicely. It looks a lot better that ypu might initally think. Beautiful bass, btw, congrats!

Tbone, you and I usually agree on virtually everything bass! But this time, as nice as the black looks, I actually prefer the stock parchment. Or better yet IMO, would be white pearloid.

I'm anxious to see one in person. I've always preferred the lighter "Surf Green" to "Seafoam Green"; but this Seafoam Pearl looks to be right in the middle of those two.

Has anybody swapped the stock pickups in this bass with EMG's Geezer PJ set? I just bought this bass a few days ago and I'm contemplating doing that myself. I really like the sound of the EMG Geezers from what I've heard online.

The stock pickups seem to get the job done, though the jazz pickup is a lot lower output than the p pickup, it seems (something I've heard is typical of a p/j setup). Also, the pickup volume knobs only seem to have a real overall effect on the output tone at about the last 10% or so of the pot's rotating range. Outside of that, the volume knobs don't seem to effect much.

Also - I love the bass, however the j bridge pickup does seem to buzz when its at full volume, and even more so when the tone pot is turned up. The buzz is subdued when I place my hand on the strings, jack, or bridge..... so maybe a ground issue? Just wondering because I've heard that some buzzing in a PJ setup is typical.... any thoughts would be appreciated.

The above are minor concerns for me; all in all I love the bass. I do wonder though, if installing the GZR set might help with the above mentioned. If anybody has any insight though, it'd be helpful

Just put some geezers this week in my Seafoam PJ. I was pretty satisfied with the stocks, but I ruined the bridge PU, trying to put on white covers. The original P was harsh sounding to me and the noiseless bridge was very thin.
The Geezers have a even warmer vintage tone to me (a lot more mids) and much more responsiveness to the controls. Even the bridge soloed with the tone rolled off sounds good. I can get a boomy reggae tone and with the right tweaking, a decent slap sound.
I've only had a chance to run them through a small combo amp and some headphones, but I'm glad I made the upgrade.
The solderless install makes it simple, plus you can keep your originals wired up and put back in if it's not for you.

I'm going to put up a black WD pickguard for the PJ in the classifieds today if anyone is interested. It had it on for a day, but decided I liked the white better.

Yeah, I think the white looks good on this bass. White Pearl would also look great, IMO...

Just picked one up the other day. Ran into the not enough holes in the off the shelf pick guard problem so i sanded the stock one down. Masked off some of the white beveled edge. Threw on 4 or 5 layers of matte black rattle can and a few layers of clear coat. Black pick guard screws and Dunlop strap locks. Some black jazz knobs. And this thing looks rad. Thinking of either upgrading the tuners or maybe lubing them? Can you just use a little wd40 on them? Or does anyone have a suggestion for an upgraded drop in set? I've been toying with the idea of all black hardware.

You guys were right about this being a difficult color to photograph. Looks like two different guitars.
