Yes, put flats on as I have and I think you will love it.

Thanks starmann. I had thought of that or maybe going with half rounds. I wanted to make sure the bass/pickup sound I was getting was the norm. I'll have to try out the round wounds. I have never used them in thirty years of playing. This question could spark hundreds of answers but, what manufacturer would you suggest for flatrounds?

I use Fender 9050MLs or Dadarrio chromes....Actually they are made for fender by daddarrio and you may get them for $10 less.

Anyway, after they are on and you play, let me know....I think they will fill your need.

The American and Chinese both have the truss rod access notch... The Mexican one does not. Interesting huh?

That's because the MIM Deluxe Dimension uses the same neck blank as the MIM Deluxe Jazz.

Finally a club I want to be a member! I have an American Deluxe Dimension V HH in Cayenne Red that I absolutely love. I've strung it with Circle K .124 balanced set. This light string sets up very nicely with this bass. Fender has a real winner here. I hope they are smart enough to keep it going. So lay a number on me brother!!


For the poster who asked to compare it to a Fender Roscoe Beck, I have a very nice RBV too. The controls are somewhat similar, but that is about all they have in common. (I happen to like a pickup selector switch. I find it works well live.)

I bought an American Deluxe V HH last week. I really like the tones that I'm able to get from it so far. A lot of people have compared these to Stingrays. I can see that the concept is similar, but I don't think that this sounds that much like my Ray. Admittedly my ray is a single humbucking 4 string from 1995, but this seems like a different animal to me and not in a bad way. I'll post photos as soon as my new pickguard comes in.

I've been using a Fender Am Dlx Dimension V HH as my main bass for a while now. I really love the tone and feel. It has a very wide variety of useful sounds with just a change to the 5-position switch. Also the volume does not change much with selection. That is pretty cool IMO. And yes, it does not sound like a StingRay or a Roscoe Beck V or a G&L L-2500. It just looks something like them. The Dim has a tight bottom, slightly scooped mids, and open top end. It sounds very modern compared to those others, but is not sterile at all. (I am using Kalium strings BTW.) I hate the balance. I think it is because of the body shape, but it could be just this bass. I recently bought a Gruv Gear Dualstrap in hopes it would address this issue. It works well with it, but I am not entirely sure it is helping the neck-dive issue. It may require more adjustment.

Mine is still doing great although I did have some warranty issues. One was the neck had some uneven finish on the 3rd fret, and the pick guard screws started falling out. Yes, FALLING out. Upon close inspection of the screws, the threads were more like machine screws rather than wood screws, Brought it in to the local Fender warranty repair shop and he said it looks like they may have over torqued the screws upon installation but it is an easy fix (Yeah I know, I can replace screws but since it was under warranty, I thought it would be productive to let Fender know)

As far as the neck is concerned, Fender received pictures from the shop and they decided they are going to replace the whole neck. That was unexpected. However, they are on a 60-90 day backorder on the necks so, I will wait. Not a big deal, the bass is still playable.

Other than that, Like I said, LOVE this bass. When it was in the shop for the week, I used my old 94 P bass... Light but no balls in comparison. I was happy to get it back.

I bought my American Deluxe Dimension HH V almost two weeks ago, pulled the pickguard off the same day and sent it off to be duplicated in BWB.

It came in today!!! Of course I wasn't home as I was out buying an American Honey-Burst P when it was delivered. Did I mention that a 1991 Precision Plus (Boner bass) joined the fold too while I was waiting?

Anyway...

Here is a photo of the whole trio.

Oh, and I already ordered the black guard for the Precision Plus so that it will fit in with the rest of the family...
