Fender factory colors in 1978

You might be right about the finish corresponding to the year buy honestly I looked at your link and that is not the finish I once had on the Fender P bass I bought brand new in 1981.
Here is the link to what I'm talking about, this is definitely the finish that was on the Precision bass I bought brand new, now unless Chicago Music Exchange is mistaken and calling this finish on this bass the wrong color but the finish on this bass is the finish that was on the bass I bought in '81:

Those colours are the same, believe or not.
And it is also the only possible colour because it is the only solid red finish used at that time.
Fender stopped finishing Dakota red in the late 60s

I agree it's much more likely that it's (the International Series) Morocco Red. Dakota red wasn't used since the '60s (like st0n3 said). Dakota Red could have been used again (in very limited numbers) on the earliest American Vintage reissues, but those didn't come out until '82, and I don't recall ever seeing a Dakota Red Fullerton reissue.

My '57 AVRI is indeed Dakota Red. It is a 2002 (sorry about the thread derail)

I have seen some '90s or '00s Dakota Red AVRIs like yours, just never on an '80s Fullerton AVRI (but I wouldn't doubt if they did do some in that color, I've personally just never seen one). I've seen several Candy Apple Red Fullerton AVRIs though.
