Fender FSR Club

quick question for all you Natural Ash FSR jazz owners...how is the neck/body fit on your basses?.

Although my jazz bass is great, it has a neck pocket gap on the upper horn side that is pretty substantial. I have an early version of these basses, probably the first run of them, the serial number indicates that it is a 2003 although I bought it new in 2004.

I know its purely an aesthetic thing, but the lack of fit has kinda annoyed me over the years, so Im wondering if any of you guys have also experienced this

Regards neck pocket gaps, my MIM antigua Jazz has a noticeable gap, the light colour shows it more than a dark shade would, its not huge, can just about get the corner half inch of an A4 sheet of paper in it, it does spoil the personal pride a little bit knowing that the factory has a small amount of sloppiness in its output and QC, is it really that difficult to be able to produce a pocket free neck joint, the Jazz cost me £538 which is not cheap budget stuff, I have had budget basses and guitars with perfect fitting neck pockets .
My 10 year old MIM Precision has a huge neck pocket gap, not good enough IMO .
I will praise the gap free fit on my MIA P Deluxe, to be expected at the price :)

Since the pocket is certainly machined by CNC, I wonder if the 'adjustment' is actually on the neck. Seems to me that there would be more scope for over sanding the neck and making it smaller than doing any finishing inside the pocket. Has anyone measured a selection of necks to see if they are exactly the same? My MIM Jazz certainly has a little play - but that gets used occasionally to line up the strings either side of the neck - if it fitted exactly I couldn't do that.

It probably comes down to time spent on production, give the neck a quick sand and fit without checking and adhering to any fit tolerances, I am not impressed, having said that, I do like the bass and it plays and sounds great .

interesting how MF and GC are still churning these basses out with the old style pre 2010ish MIM headstock logo. I wonder if there is just a backlog of these old necks laying around that fender uses for the FSR Jazzes instead of the new 70's style logo necks that they use on their current 'standard' MIM line.

Maybe im completely wrong on this
