Fender Fullerton Reissue club

Is there no date on the neck (when removed)?....looks like a reissue neck, tuners are reissue. Is there a hole for the hootenany strap button on the back of the headstock? Hard to tell... all the U.S. reissues had those. The 80's reissue pickguards are not nitrocellulose, just plastic, I have one and love the color and pattern of those old pepperoni guards.

Yeah there is a hole the button is just missing and some gunk is in it. I need to look for a date stamp. It has to be a RI neck because I dont know what else it could be. As for the guard I didnt get what the guy was trying to say about it , but does it look like a fullerton one? i think he bought the guard on ebay as there was a bunch of nos ones on there.

Is there a pickguard color chart on fullerton RI bass ?

I think the 57 Pbass are all with gold anodized pickguard, right ?

For the 62, I have seen only red tort on both jazz and Pbass for the sunburst finish, normal

But with custom color body it's more complicated as I have seen white 3 ply and red tort on fiesta red for exemple and some players can switch the original guard...

Do someone know what the pickguard color might be with each custom color body ?

Can I ask how you get to that everything I'm reading is just saying 82-84.

Also would it be Fullerton made or elsewhere?

Sorry I'm just trying to find a bass made in my birth year for my 30th later this year and the serial numbers of Fenders are all over the place :D

Here's my "new" 83 J-Bass.

I have been lusting after an Olympic white 62 RI
since the beginning of time but stumbled upon this
beauty a few weeks back. I've always turned away
from sunburst jazzes because I have a sunburst RW P,
and ive fixated on a white jazz- The only reason I went for this 83 was the collectability, great
condition, and the fact that I got it for what I would
have paid for a '10-12 AVRI.
Overall happy with it, could use some fret leveling,
but damn do I wish it was oly white. We'll see where the
future has in store for this one in the mean time :bassist:

Beautiful, and very close in age to mine (V004#, neck date Nov 12 1982)! Pickup output on my bass is pretty much "normal" P-bass output, which in my experience is louder than a jazz but not as loud as active, if that makes any sense. You could measure the resistance of the pups, maybe there's a short in the winding? (Assuming, of course, that pickup height is OK)

I just did a crude measurement on my P without removing the pickups (plug in a patch cable and measure resistance between tip and ground, volume and tone on max), and it reads 11.46 kOhm. So if it's far off that, there might be a problem with the pickups.

Ok, interesting. I get 11.9k ohm on the Fullerton and 10.9k ohm on the roadworn. It's not critical, but comparing with my Jazz (passive, 69') the roadworn is about 5-6db hotter, and the Fullerton is about 5-6db lower, so the output is rather different. But the tone is very similar on the two Pbasses. Just differs on the output. The Fullerton is a bit warmer in the tone. Both are very good I think. :-)

I thought I knew pretty much everything about vintage Precisions, until I bought the bass Daahoud shows in his post from a long time ago. Not the exact same bass, I don't believe, but the same finish and also in SoCal. I assumed it was a faded/color change finish from the normal trans-white, but seller says no, it has always been this color since he bought it new from GC in January 1999. It is a V101 serial number, so it's no Fullerton. The gold guard is also a different shade from the color of the anodized guard on the trans-white versions, which I find remarkable.

I know about the many other color finishes the '57 AVRI came in, but not "Vintage White". Maybe it was a GC custom color or something? I dunno, but I love the continuous learning involved in this wonderful hobby!

Just got one Fullerton AV 57 Precision. Very nice one.
Kinda creamy color. Supposed named Vintage White.
Seller says it's used only a few weeks and yes this is DA one.

The deep set truss rod nut (and reverse tuners) is something you'll have to live with if you go for an older fender or a reissue. I personally don't see it as much of a problem. You can either remove the neck when adjusting the truss rod (not a big deal really if you do it right), or if the truss rod turns smoothly (which it should), you can probably use a smallish flat head screw driver to (carefully and without marring the nut or pickguard) turn it without removing anyting.

It's not an issue of easily accessing it. The truss rod nut usually doesn't end up being that far recessed unless the wood gets compressed. This often means that there is no room left for further adjustments. The common trick is to throw in some washers to bring the nut out more and give it more room to turn but that does not always fix the problem. Most of the time it does and it's likely fine but still something to be aware of when paying large sums of money for a bass you can't inspect first hand.
