I just joined the club with this 1983 Fiesta red bass. It spent most of its life in a case. The paint is in amazing condition. The bass is very different from my 1972 Fender Jazz. It's a darker, deeper sound with a wonderful neck.

I just joined the club with this 1983 Fiesta red bass. It spent most of its life in a case. The paint is in amazing condition. The bass is very different from my 1972 Fender Jazz. It's a darker, deeper sound with a wonderful neck.
My '82 has flats with green silk. Never changed. So, it could be the original ones.
just took this bass in on trade. neck stamped jan 83. olympic white over sunburst. seeing this with all the wear shows how different the later 62 ri's were painted. every other reissue ive had has had lacquer over a super thick base sealer coat. this pretty thin white over sunburst acting as the sealer coat. its bare wood under the burst.
being that my 62 jazz and 64 p are both refins, this 83 looks way older than my precbs stuff.

That P is a true beauty. I totally agree. Fullertons DO age like older fenders. They look better the older they get.
Wow thats a sweet fullerton. 1 3/4 inch nut with PJ pickups is my dream combo, love the broke in look.
Well, narud, that subject is debatable. I'm sure there are threads on TB that discuss J pup placement. Some say too close to the P pup = certain freq cancellation. Too close to the bridge= too thin tone and volume. I bought mine used with the J route already there. It had a Quarter Pounder P pup and a Dimarzio J pup both wired directly to the single vol & tone pots. I changed the tone pot to a stacked pot to achieve a VVT set up. I finally installed a set of EMG Geezers and I'm lovin' it! I pretty much just play through the P pup anyway but I like the option of dialing in a little J.
i have an '82 reissue of a '62 jazz. it was my first bass, i bought it new in '83 (sam ash), and i didn't know it was a big deal. i think i paid $600. it's in great shape but i have did a few things on a friend's advice when i first got it. i had a hip shot de-tuner installed, and a badass bridge. i also changed the pick guard. i no longer know where the original tuning key, pick guard, pick up cover, bridge and bridge cover are located. i'm assuming that brings the value down.
would i be correct in assuming it probably isn't worth much more than i paid, and therefore, if i wanted to make some changes, it wouldn't be catastrophic?
is the metal plate (where the tone knobs are located absolutely) neccessary?
by the way, i still have the original tweed case it came in.

Wow, I paid about $1,100.00 (in 1986)for my '84 when it was new. I wouldn't do anything to it that wasn't reversible.

I actually purchased this bass. I haven't received it yet, as it's still in transit, but it looked legit to me. I'll take it apart when I get it and report if it is indeed all original. The sellers were fair and we settled on a reasonable price, below their asking price. So I think I did pretty good on this purchase, just wish it had the original case and covers...
Ok, here's the "Fullerton" I just picked up. But upon closer inspection, I'm uncertain of it's legitimacy...

Everything else, including the pot codes, and grey bottom pickups seem to check out...
