Fender Fullerton Reissue club

[A-Step-Towards]

Hey, I was told this was a 1984 fullerton neck, it all looks correct as do the tuners-the finish was removed on the back of the neck.

Here are my questions, there is a penny in it-why? it looks like its where the micro tilt would be, but these dont have micro tilts? its a 1984 which would be fullerton, everything is fender I just dont understand this. Its a 1962 penny.

Yep. The original colors for the Vintage Series were Sunburst (two-tone for the '57 instruments and three color for the '62 ones), Fiesta Red, Candy Apple Red, Lake Placid Blue, Black, and a vintage white. Over the years Fender has deleted colors, and made different instruments available in different colors, but in '82 all the VS (Strats, Precisions, and Jazz basses- the '52 Tele was offered in transparent) were available in any of those colors.

Little know fact, in 1982-1983 natural was offered to.
Everyone wanted the colors again, so natural did not sell well.
They dropped it in 1983.
My friend bought a 1982- natural-1962-P-Bass.
Only one I ever seen.
He put a gibson ebo pickup in the neck. still has the bass.
He will never sell it to me, i've offered to buy many times.

That's interesting, very first time I've heard that and never seen it in catalogues or heard it mentioned. Doesn't sound too logical either seeing how natural wasn't originally available in the instruments the AV series was copying.

Maybe it was a store swap of an E series body with an AV neck, or a Special order? I'd love to hear more about this.

Incorrect....
Fenders' low point was the late 70's. Then in 81-ish a new production manager (Bill Schultz) took over and the quality turned around, machines recalibrated. they still had heavy woods in quite a few models, but the build quality on everything was night and day from a few years earlier.

Hmm, I had a late 81 produced Fender P, black with white pickguard and maple neck with that dark insert strip of wood on the back side. No one wanted it and she was minty. Ended up selling on eBay for $1000 this past January. I thought that was quite low for the vintage and the mintyness of that bass.

That bass played very well and despite several gigs at CBGB and a few other 'Punk" clubs "back in the day", she was in real nice condition. I still had the chrome covers wrapped up from the day I pulled them off. I hand picked her brand new at Manny's in NYC. Oh well.

I have an 82 catalog, which introduces the reissue line. All of the offered colors are listed (burst, LPB, fiesta red, candy apple red, black and white -- no natural). I have never seen or heard of another natural, and there is no mention of it over at the Fullerton reissue site: Invalid Link Removed

I have serious doubt that natural was a factory offering for any Fullerton but the Teles.

It was a natural nitro-coat, light amber.
Only seen two, both were 1982-1962 AV P-Bass Reissues.
My friend in Ma. has had one since 1982.
His store was one of the first to get the reissues back in early 1983.

I have that catalog, and it can be a little confusing at first glance, because the standard (non-reissue) color chart is on the same page with the photo of the 62RI P, and natural was offered as a standard color. One page back, however has the RI color chart, and natural is not an option.

On the 4th of July I scored this CAR 1982 '57 RI Precision. Loving it so far. The wear of the CAR, over gold, over 2 tone sunburst looks insanely cool.

I would like to join. Just added this one and it's unreal. Man these things are sweet. Not usually a fan of the C neck but after a setup this plays like butter and sounds fat as hell.

This is my Fullerton '62 Reissue. Built on 3/23/83. Fabulous bass, sounds incredible, neck stays straight and in-tune, smallest neck of any Fender I have owned (1 7/16" @ nut), serial V00XXXX.

I wanted some opinions on my Jazz Bass, I bought it as a Mutt. The body is early 90's japan, as is the hardware on the body. The guard was some guard the owner said was "nitro" and off a early 80s fullerton jazz, he also replaced the pots with new CTS ones.

The AV RI part I am getting to is the neck. I know its a Fender neck, its a fantastic feeling neck to and he told me he was about 90% sure it was a american vintage from the 80s. It looks correct for that, and he said some old timer that came up to him said it maybe a original 60's J neck but if it was the dots would be clay.

I am just going to post it for sale and I have pinned everything else down but the neck, and I know the tuners are AV RI's and the neckplate does date to like 62 or 63 but I am guessing its a repro and not a real fender neckplate from that time period.

So if anyone knows any details on the neck please let me know I just want to post it from a pretty solid price in the classifieds but first want to clear it as authentic. I know you can tell by logos but I dont know on Jazz basses.
