Might be Corona body w/ Fullerton neck

Except its not. Again, wrong decal location, doesn't have the rounded rosewood end by the nut, and if an early model would have slipped out with those two very odd appointments (very doubtful), then it would have surely had the larger fret wire. Plus every other aspect of the bass is characteristic of a Corona era bass. What makes you think any of this is Fullerton era? Can you post a link to a bass from the fullerton era with that decal location and flat rosewood end?

Oh - I thought it was the #7 post - my bad - I presently have an '82 Jazz (7/30 neck date)that has some wackiness, tuners are not evenly spaced, the headstock decal is slightly "south" of where it should be. (compared to a Sept. '84 that I bought new) Hashing out the details is what this thread is for, I'd like to see the neck taken off of the black one above - THEN we'll get some answers.

Yes, until around 1993 peperoni guards and '82 pots are common.

I know the first run in the series had some oddball appointments, like plastic wire, gray bobbin pickups, large fret wire, etc. But having looked at all of the appointments on the bass above, in question, wrong decal location, no pilot holes for bridge cover, small fret wire (proving this could not be a very early model), and non-fullerton case, plus according to the thread referenced below serial number is 32059, which is way too high as there are no known Fullertons above about 15000, there is no way it is a Fullerton era reissue.

Issue resolved, not a Fullerton reissue.

When it comes to serial numbers I've seen two or three in 16000 region. My '83 is in the mid 16000's.

That's right, up to 16000. Here is an except from the fender reissue site:

"As a broad generality V000001-V004000 denote a 1982 guitar, V004000-V010000 denote a 1983 guitar, and V010000-V016000 denotes a 1984 guitar. If you look at my fullerton inventory, you can see that this is just a broad generality. From my experience, any serial number below V016000 denotes a guitar made at the fullerton plant (1982-1984). Of course, there are exceptions to this generalization. I have come across many guitars with a serial number in the V012000's with a 1982 neckdate. I have also come across guitars with a V012000 serial number with a 1986 neckdate."

Never saw a Fullerton with V017XXX.

Wow. Never saw an '81 Fullerton. Is there a penciled neck date with '81?

No doubt this is a Fullerton, but:
The pickguard doesn't have holes (at least pivot holes only in the pickguard) for the ashtray neck pickup and no thumbrest/holes - is that the original peperoni one?
The bridge saddles looks like they came from a standard.

it can't be an '81. the only reissue made in 81 was the Telecaster guitar. All the other models: Strat/P/J came later well into 82

Crappy Allparts pickguard. I think?........ fiesta reds usually came with a white guard. Will be ordering a Spitfire before the new year.


I replaced the bridge saddles from the original threaded style back when I played much harder and the strings would move from thread to thread at times..



Now that I play with a lighter touch, I've considered putting the threaded style back on.

After this bass was stolen ( long story ), the guy who ended up buying it at auction ( an ex Martin rep ) researched it and came back with the '81 dating.


I really don't know what the dating is on the neck, but it is a V00xxxx serial number.

To my knowledge the V serial number system was first introduced back in 1982 with many reissues possessing V00 numbers from '82 to late '83 .Preproduction samples were made around late '81 early '82 with standard tuners as the Kluson type versions were not yet ready.

Been on the hunt for a good shape '83 RI '62 Jazz for a bit. The one below popped up on Reverb and I put in a fairly high offer (but under $3k) and was denied. Someone mentioned that Fullertons are pricey across the pond but this is a bit absurd here.
