Fender Highway One series discontinued?

All I can tell you is, that I wouldn't trade mine for anything. The neck is by far one of the best and the stiffening rods have helped me get unbelievably low action, along with awesome looks and sound. I may change out the GB tone circuit, but that is a 10 dollar fix. Couldn't be happier.

It seems to me that the Fender "aristocrats" poo poo on this bass any chance they get. It's not really MIA...blah blah blah...it is.

Lots of people have show love for the American Special around here, but I never experienced anything other than mediocrity (But then again, they were in GC, so it could have used a setup.)

For the price, I'd still say the Highway One wins out between the two.

Agreed, and then some. The H1s were by no means perfect, but I think they were a much better buy the the new Specials.

I looked at the H1 j back in november when I was looking for an all weather bass and would have bought one, but I found a really nice used MIM j for $300.

I looked at the H1 j again back in january when my little MIM was down for some mods and I still needed an all weather bass, but I found a really nice used MIM j for $100.

About 6 weeks ago I asked about the H1 j bass at GC, the guy told me he could get me one, but GC would no longer be stocking them. I'm thinking about going down there today and see if they can get me one in black since it will be 15% off with their 4th of july promotion.

do it...the finish, no HSC, is what brings the $ down, but it is a true players bass, no doubt...

If I'm not mistaken, Fenders are excluded from their 15% off sale.

Dollar for dollar the HWY One's gave you the best bang for the buck of any of their instruments. Nitro body, graphite support rods, Badass bridge and a great playing neck. I had a transparent blonde one it was a great bass. Nice and light with that classic jazz sound.

Personally I think it is a bad move on Fenders part discontinuing them.

+1 - I have 2 (I had another I parted out for more than I paid), but I use Warmoth Jazz 'New Slim' necks with Hipshot 'lollipop' tuners as opposed to the stock neck and tuners - which are NO slouches...I just like to change out necks. I've had 4 different Warmoth necks on these 2. Best bang for yer Fender buck (IMO & IME) for either recording or live use :smug:

as much as I try, i just cannot find anything wrong with mine....

Cliff mentioned this in an earlier post, but the nitro finish and BAII were a turnoff for some. Personally, I could have done without the bridge, and the Greasebucket was so-so, but otherwise I thought the H1s were solid basses. Not perfect, (and so much of that is subjective) but really quite good.

It's the same thing with the Road Worns. I'm not a fan of the look, but every one I've played has been a really nice bass.

Again, I think the H1s are (were?) a better value than the new Specials. Either way, it sounds like you really enjoy yours...and that's all that matters.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were scrapped to prevent them from cannibalizing the MIM Fender sales...

Nah, they've been around too long. They would have chopped them years ago. My guess is the value of the parts wasn't worth the whole...and a price jack wasn't gonna work (although, it probably would have). The Badass alone from the HWY1 is going for $150 online. Why? I have no idea.

The badass II's have went up in price thus i think fender wanted to cut them , they still have the geddy, marcus and harris sporting them tho.

Well I wish they would have a blow out sale on them.

I used to sell a Badass II on Ebay for $60. Now, I can get rid of one in three hours for $90. That's not even mentioning the ones already threaded that sell for up to *throws up* $200 in reliablefender's store.

I would have said that they were to prevent a cannibalization of American Standard sales. I bought a used '03 H1 P a couple years ago and I still dig it. I'd like to upgrade the pickup at some point, but that's just what I like to do with pretty much any Fender I own (done it to a MIM, MIJ, and even my AV).

Is Fender going to suffer for doing this? Probably not, so long as they have a few models that say "Precision" and a few that say "Jazz" they will continue to make money for the foreseeable future.

I sold two pulls to a local dealer for $300 in May.

BTW, FMIC was shipping new HOs as recently as four weeks ago, to my direct knowledge, so they're not "discontinued." Why they're not on the site, I don't know, as Fender keeps discontinued models on the site for a year or so to to support existing stocks in the stores.
