Notice the finishes "Old Candy Apple Red" and "Old Lake Placid Blue." A little darker than regular versions of CAR and LPB.
Nice.
a tad OT, but i vote tommy to have the most GAS out of everyone in his range of age LOL. yea i also have a bit of GAS for a japanese fender... ha.
The hardware issue is an easy one to overcome though. I'd rather be able to get one that looks like I want then make a few minor tweaks along the way.
I think the Aerodyne Special as seen here is the cat's pyjamas:

If they only offered it in Olympic White, I'd be all over it.
The tuners were sh%#t on mine. The first to go. The '62 re-issue P neck is beautiful.I love Fender Japan. The build quality is the most consistent of the factory groups. American and Mexican Fenders leap all over the place in terms of quality; you can get amazing Mexicans and garbage Americans, but Japanese, you know that they're going to be decent all the way through; very little variation instrument to instrument within the same model.
That said, they are kinda cheaper, in terms of the hardware used, so that's a downfall. But with a little extra cash, you can buy a cheap instrument and upgrade, say, the pickups or a switch, and have a very solid instrument for a fraction of the price.
B Day present 1987, Jazz Special. It's # uno!

I don't get the 'made in' as opposed to 'crafted in' thing either.
Perhaps 'made' insinuates that completed bodies and necks come in from elsewhere and are assembled in japan, and the 'crafted' basses have all the shaping, routing, etc done in Japan...?
In any case, here's my made in Japan bass (pic taken from the ebay auction where I got it)

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]: just email them and get what you want. they also have an amazing used section.
The yen rate is down around 90 these days which is pretty awful. When I was living there in 1985 it was averaging 240 and it has been fairly steady around 110 until recently.
Shipping is usually $125-$150. But with the yen rate as it is it more like $177.
Look
At all their basses!

Damn they have better basses than you offer us!

And what's up with the different markings on the back of the necks? I've got 3 Jags and one says "Crafted In Japan" in fancy script on the base of the neck, and the other two say "MADE IN JAPAN" in block script. What the heck does that mean?
