So is that a Geddy color pattern without the Geddy neck? ....
bass players who had another company make a bass in the color pattern they wanted, but you (FMIC) did not offer...can you handle knowing you lost maybe a couple million bucks in sales?
Same goes for you policy on releasing certain Artist lines only on certain continents with Squier....boy that cash keeps adding up, don't it?
I'm not trying to post to be an idiot about it, nor to cop some attitude that I'm out to hurt your (FMIC) business. Hell, you have made a good deal of money off me already with 2 Squiers and a combo amp. But I hope you see how not making certain things available is costing you customers and sales as a company.

I see where you're coming from here (Fender would sell more basses if they offered more options), but Fender may be quite happy with things being the way they are now for a few reasons:
It's more expensive to manufacture in the US. The more options they make available the more variants in parts need to be available and probably the more employees need to be employed to manufacture/assemble these things.
If these things are available from Fender Japan, and are bought from there, Fender still make money. Having said that, they could probably charge a whole lot more for a USA bass with all the assorted bells and whistles options of a Japanese instrument.
It's just a regular Geddy bass I have, btw (with the wee autograph decal on the back of the headstock). I have, however, changed the pickup covers for ivory ones and am awaiting a BWB pickguard.
Holy crap! After looking at all these super neat(yeah I said neat) basses, especially those Mustangs. I must say I just popped a chub!

Agreed! I'm GAS-ing hard now for a PB-62 US in fiesta red w/tort, another in teal metallic and the PB-70 in oly white w/black guard.I think my blog is better and much easier to read

OK, how does one find Ishibashi's new Fender Japan stock in English with pricing? When I click on the "In English" link on this page http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/ I get taken to this page [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] which has no apparent links to new gear. Or does Ishibashi not sell its new stuff overseas? Anyone?
2007 Fender Japan PB62. I swapped the original pup for a Fender USA '62 reissue, and I upgraded the pickguard to an actual Fender tortoise as the orignal looked pretty cheesy by comparison. Also added the pup cover, ash tray complete with foam, and La Bella flatwounds.
God...this thread...makes me drool so much. Why do the Japanese get all these super cool basses!? Where's my blacked out precision, or my matching headstock p bass?
I hate the string spacing on short scales but I've been called by one of these... it will be my next bass.

So it looks like you get the info on the model you want and then contact them outside of a traditional "add to cart" scenario...

neck = drool. If only there was a matching headstock, I might simply explode. If it were a P bass, then I probably WOULD explode, lol.
...And that is why I only owned 1 fender bass in my 11 years of playing bass. I like to have 24 frets available at all times, the wooden headstocks look ugly to me, i think fender is cheap on paint in that sense and the extra little wood that they'd use on a longer fretboard. Had to go back to Ibanez, Just picked up an SR800 in black, made in japan. Looks hot and plays as good as it looks, serves as a big middle finger towards fender for me. Although I love the tone and playability of fender, I just wouldn't buy them that much because they're very cheap on their options, it's like fender forgot we live in a more modern age where for the price they sell their instruments, other's have long gone to offer more color options. I respect the whole vintage look, but I honestly don't like to look at furniture for a bass guitar. Music Man does a way better job in this sense, they have almost a bit of everything for everyone, they still have to work on a p-pickup config, which i like to have on my basses most of the time.

I played one of those yesterday and I have to say it was about the best new fender I've played in ten years.
I'd love to see a factory tour of the Japanese site on Youtube. You can see videos of the American and Mexican factories. The Japanese factory is elusive to the camera eye. If anyone has a link, by all means let me know!
