80'S MIJ 62RI "E" Series

Except for the bridge and pickguard, totally stock, sounds and plays like butta'.
Has the thinest neck I have ever seen on any Jazz even a Geddy.

As I heard it, they had a contract granting Tokay the exclusive right to the term "Made in Japan" on any guitar bearing the Fender name. When they changed builders that contract was still in effect so they used Crafted in Japan. Something has apparently changed since then because I just bought a new Japanese made Jaguar gutiar and it say Made in Japan.

The very first Fender Japan (including the Squier lines) were originally built by FujiGen Gakki and used MADE IN JAPAN (notice all caps), then in the mid 90s, contract was granted to Tokai and so it became Crafted in Japan, then in the late 2008, it was changed to Made in Japan (now, notice the upper and lower case fonts). That would differentiate the first generation MIJ and second generation MIJ.

Its all over baby.. Ishibashi will not be selling direct to foreign customers as of the 25th Jan.. only via their (over priced and understocked) ebay store.

Go to the UBox, there is an announcement on there.

That stinks... I loved that you could get unique basses from them that you could not get over here. The build quality is excellent on them. The only thing that sometimes needs an upgrade is the hardware, as long as you get the ones with the nicer pickups.

By the way.. when did you get that? There is another one listed for sale, first listed nov lat year, but I'm not sure if its just not been taken down (they still have a P-Project bass I bought listed for sale .. )

I bought the orange bass a few years ago. They discontinued the color (but still make the same model) so I figured I should get one before I regretted missing out on it. I wonder if they started making new ones again?

I'd love to see a factory tour of the Japanese site on Youtube. You can see videos of the American and Mexican factories. The Japanese factory is elusive to the camera eye.

It doesn't exist as such.

FJ manufactures nothing, but currently contracts production to Tokai (for domestic market) and Dyna-Gakki (for export and cheaper domestic models).

So assuming that is as I say above, Fender you lost, what, 1500-2000 dollars from me alone? Let's go a step further based on what I have said earlier -

Now do that times a percentage of all bass players who like that specific model but not the neck, and do that in a certian percentage of all bass players who had another company make a bass in the color pattern they wanted, but you (FMIC) did not offer...can you handle knowing you lost maybe a couple million bucks in sales?

And while I am at it, I am now building most of what I want, in the colors I want, with the options I want. So how much ya think you are gonna lose from a gear hog like me over the next 40 years? (God willing I live so long) And how much will companies that make bodies and necks get that you won't? Even if they pay a license fee to you, you still get a fraction of what I alone will spend. And what if I build one or two a year? And I will be selling some of what I build so I took even more cash out your pocket.

I know what you mean. You can configure all sorts of stuff all sorts of ways through Warmoth's web page. You'd think an operation as big as Fender could do something similar...well, of course they CAN. You'd think they'd WANT to...
