Fender Jazz '62 AV RI club

how comes my Usa avri62 jazz doesn't have it installed?
They stopped installing them about 6 years ago Why I don't know. But they used to at least throw it in the accessory bag.
Oh! Now I understand the question! Yes, I understand that the brass strip is included in the accessory kit. I think you can buy them on e-bay or perhaps basspartsresource.com. Or Stewart-McDonald maybe... The strip is decorative only so the bass will play the same with or without it.
I've had to make a few minor adjustments over the years, but nothing major. I'm not very picky when it comes to that kind of stuff but I can say that my 97' 62 RI P-Bass plays better....it just feels more solid and better built which may be partly due to the bigger neck. Still, the Jazz plays great, sounds awesome and is fun as heck to play.
Nice mod Bassman...I'm gonna have to try that one. Is that an AllParts pickguard?
Sweet! I like mine more than ever now that I modded a truss rod notch for truss adjustments without removing the neck. Still my most fussy bass, but very manageable. Gigged all 3 if my basses this weekend. Still very much in live with the '62 RI tone. Truly unique. Pic of the mod:

So looks like the '62 RI AV line is no more, based on what I am seeing on the Fender site and on MF. Is that correct?
Yes, that's correct Al, Fender is revamping the AV line, and have ceased production of the 62 & 75 AV Jazzes and replaced them with the 64 & 74 Jazzes.
Anyhow, here's my 62. Bought it in July from Sweetwater, and it's fantastic. However, I'm not terribly fond of the stock Jazz tonal palette, so, as you can see, I've gone about modifying it a fair bit. Dagstar Neck pickup, stereo output (each pup goes to its own controls and output, so total isolation from interaction between the two as has been discussed), and when I do put a pup cover, I put on the one from my 62AV Precision, as it fits over the Dagstar better. I The holes have been drilled for the mutes, though they currently aren't installed, and the bridge cover is permanently left on (I never really palm mute and it's a very handy place to rest my hand while playing with a pick). I also plan on getting a 74AV neck for it when it becomes available, just because I'm a sucker for blocks and binding. This is just an amazing instrument. Currently serving as my number 1, giving my P a rest after 6 years of playing near exclusively.
Oh yeah, and I put this giant sticker on the back.

Did you do the mod yourself or have a tech do the work for you?
If you did it would you mind elaborating? I'm thinking a Dremel tool would make quick work of that. I just picked up an AVRI Jazz and although I have adjusted similar situated truss nuts with a slotted screwdriver making small almost quater-turn adjustments without body damage, I really like the way your mod looks.
Thanks Roots! I'm semi-handy on a good day, so that tells you how easy this mod is. I bought a cheap-o hobby cutting knife at Michaels hobby shop. I also picked up a circular file at Home Depot for $5. "Bastard" grade. Chews right through the wood. Finished with sandpaper and a small bottle of flat black Testors enamel modeling paint (about $2 for the paint and brush combined). That's about it! I was really nervous to cut into my baby, but when I broke down the job I realized how easy it was going to be. I used the circular file to mod the pick guard as well. Very easy as long as you clearly mark your cutting area while the guard is still on the body.
A dremel would be great if you are practiced at using one. I am not, so the old fashioned method was safer and probably quicker, believe it or not.

Well thanks Al. Just happens I just picked a newly purchased (2005) AVRI 62 jazz in sunburst from Fedex. This thing feels solid, neck is nice and straight (so far!). Looks alot like yours but a little more beat up.
I will be trying out your mod soon. Love this thread, by the way and hope to post on it as soon as I get a couple days of playing this thing under my belt.

Hello, just received a '62 oly white jazz today.
I started reading this thread and read about all the tweaks, etc. that seem everybody's having to do here, am wondering about that.
I generally get a setup on my basses then leave them alone...perhaps i'm not overly fussy about all that but i'm concerned what i'm gonna run into with this beautiful new '62.
I've already got an AmStd jazz that i've had set up twice in the 10 yrs that i've owned it and two Rick's, both 4003's, one of which i got last year and still has yet to be to my tech. Until recently owned a USA Peavey, a solid stalwart bass that, well you're probably following what i'm saying here; that is, I want to be sure that I didn't make a mistake getting the AVRI, is it overly sensitive or something?, that is, constantly needing to be tweaked?, I don't do my own setups, and if setups will be needed regularly, i.e. every year or so, it would get expensive and a pain, too, considering what i'm used to.
