Fender Jazz Bass FSR/Special Edition

Lets Check how many there are floating around on TB
I have 2!
1 CAR with pt. no: 00289
1 LPB with pt. no: 00854 (if my memory don´t fail me yet AGAIN)
As far as experienced differences other than colour.
CAR:
Slightly beefier neck, the hole bass feels more....firm. Sound is slightly more mid focused and agressive. The body seems a tad more resonant.
The rosewood board is lighter in appearence with more visible grain.
Neck pocket supertight. Other fit and finish is flawless.
For a while it sported a black PG but now it´s back to white.
And it will stay that way.
LPB:
Neck is slimmer (but not close to Geddy Lee thin) and superfast. Warmer and a more "even" tone. They are both growl monsters if you like. Rosewood board is darker. Again neck pocket super tight and fit and finish flawless.
Woods? I have no idea. They´re painted! I have heard stories that the CAR was either Ash or Alder and the LPB Alder.
I have played 3-4 different LPB. 1->2 felt very simular to mine.
1 had a neck more like my CAR and the last had a set up made by trolls and was almost unplayable (great advertising music stores
) All looked really nice
I have made foolish attempts to sell the CAR but never succeded
But decided never to sell any of them as long as i can afford to keep them. They are just that lovely.
The usual suspects:
Over the years i have seen many reincarnations of the 70 concept. Blocks, large headstock distance between pup´s etc.
A dream would be to collect them all:
NAT, BLK. 3CSB, CAR, SONIC BLUE, OLY, LPB and Vintage white (All MIA)

They were made for export but most stayed here. The CAR ones were the initial batch, then LPB, then White, and a few Sonic Blues. It was supposed to be 250-300 made altogether. Sonic Blue ones were mostly sent to Europe and are scarce as hens teeth, as there weren't many of those made. The ones in the US were sold by GC and other dealers. I got one of the early CAR's for about $1100 and by the time they quit making them, the body wood had changed. Sold mine and haven't kept track of the resale value.

I think it was more like 1000 made altogether. Mine has serial# 866, and I've see others with numbers in the 700 range. From the dealer specs back then, I remember these LE's were advertised as having alder bodies, unlike the 'regular' 75RI.
I'm loving these instruments. I like the way the headstock is the same colour as the body. Reminds me of Musicman Basses.

You're probably right. Mine was up over 300. I'm probably thinking of the initial run. I remember it wasn't supposed to be large but they sold like hotcakes.
Does anyone know anything about the MIM Jazz basses with the ASH body? i was led to believe that they are FSR as well.
you are correct, the natural ash basses are FSR models but they are the MIM FSR models.
the basses that you have been seeing in this thread are MIA FSR models.
I had one of the white/matching headstock FSR basses that I still kick myself for selling.The ones I remember were basically a 75 reissue,and they were white,LP blue,or Red with matching headstocks. Beautiful basses!

They already have been, they stopped before the MIM's were upgraded for 2009 MY. What is left is old stock from before then. Most Guitar Centers have at least one FSR Jazz left because they raised the price on them to the level of the 2009 Upgrade MIMs, even thought they AREN'T the upgraded model.
The latest serial number I've seen on any of them has been late 2008, and just about all are 2007-2008.
