Fender Jazz Bass FSR/Special Edition

Can anyone tell me if all these FSR Vintage models should have the "special edition" tag with the fender logo on the back of the headstock?

I saw one recently and it is definitely a FSR 75 RI, in every way except it doesn't have the special edition stamp.
Would that mean it's a replacement neck?
It's rosewood with the pearl inlays.

Yes, they all started life with one.

Not necessarily. It's more likely the the owner (or previous owner) removed it - or that it simply fell off.

It's not even a water slide decal - it's just an oval see-thro' plastic 'sticker'.

I've just picked up a Sonic Blue FSR serial 00112 for £1300 and am really pleased with it.
I tried a custom shop 75 NOS and custom shop 60's relic before hand and preferred the FSR I ended up with.
The bass is very light (8.5lb) and has a very clear/full sound.
I agree with other forum members that the neck pickup is very loud, I've actually never heard a Jazz pickup that loud before.
When you wind up both pickups its really growls in the way a good 70's style jazz should.
The flat sound from the bass is very good, only needing a slight mid cut to make it really sing.
It seems that these models were all of above average quality. I'd love to know just how mass produced they were.
It seems to me that someone must have gone the extra mile to make them really decent.
I guess we'll never know those kinds of details, either way I'm just thankful to have finally found a Jazz that I'm really happy with. :)

Not sure how they have the nuts to call all those natural finish MIM FSRs a 'FSR': there are MILLIONS of them!

pyrohr's reply above is all the info you need on genuine FSR's.

I meself, like roddimus, have a Sonic Blue one - serial #00020. Aren't I a lucky boy? Eh, eh?

... not to mention they have been producing that bass for over 10 years now ...

... the terminology for Fender 'FSR' status has usually meant a special factory run for a specific retailer ... in this case, GC/MF ... the fact that there are so many of these out there, and still going, probably only means that the retailer is still willing to pony up the $$ to have them produced for their exclusive offering ... they are a 'special run' for that retailer, however, they are not a 'limited' run like most of the other FSR's ...
