Fender JP 90 club?

The red ones aren’t so common (or at least not put up for sale very often). I wouldn’t strip it.

I have a red one, and I was iffy on the appearance at first, but it's grown on me. First off, I'm fortunate to have one that looks like it just came out of Corona, secondly, I really, really like the bass which has made me like the way it looks. I have seen online some folks who have done sort of a p-bass style pickguard on it (not really a p-bass pickguard, but one that sort of looks like it). I really liked that look and am considering doing the sme thing. I'm just reluctant to drill holes in mine. I'm almost wondering if I can do double sided adhesive like on acoustic guitar pick guards. I've removed one from my Takamine and not damaged the finish.

It was the shape of the pickguard that drew me to the bass. It reminds me of the Jetsons. (And who might have been born just the other day?)

I’d leave it as is; if you want a P-Bass, then get a P-Bass. The offer your JP-90 to me.

Updated #40
New pickguard after the original had broken at the input jack 20+ years ago. Switched to hipshot black tuning pegs with a bass extender for instant drop D. Some fun knobs Newly set up and plays like a dream.

Hooray! It's an honor and a pleasure to join this august body. And I've got the volume knob, in a drawer around here somewhere. But I replaced the original volume pot when it went bad, and I used one with the wrong size pole, so the knob won't go back on at the moment. The pot works fine without it lol. I'll switch it out with one that's the right size at some point. Incidentally that's the original pickguard, I just put patterned contact paper on it.

I just now saw this! Thanks for the compliments on the bass. I have actually wanted to paint it from time to time. But I probably won’t because I am a procrastinator .

Just to confirm, normal sized pots do not fit in the route correct?

I just bought this JP-90 from year I graduated High School-1990. The pickguard was cracked so I got a new 3-ply and the bridge pickup had been replaced with what looks to be a standard Fender pickup. I’m on the hunt for an original and I have an ad in the Gear Wanted section. I’m digging it and might bring it to the luthier soon to really get it dialed in. It needs a fret leveling if I want to get the action lower but it’s getting factory spec action as it is.

My JP-90 and I went on our maiden voyage together today. It was a laid back gig at the House of Blues with a house provided Ampeg amp. It’s a pleasure to report that, for me at least, this one’s a keeper and simply was a joy to play. I loved the fast neck and punchy tone in PJ mode. Thanks to the other members here for the solid information found in this thread. I’ll be following from here on out.
