Anyone use/own/played one. If So what do you think?? I was thinking about buying one but id like to hear what everyone else thinks about it first.

Fender MIM Deluxe Active Jazz Bass?

ive played a couple and they seem to be one of the best bangs for your buck! mine arrives via fedex tomorrow so ill share my review with you
I've had Mexican Standards, American Standards, and currently have one of these, and I can honestly say the neck on these is by far the best (vintage-like)...
I've got one, vintage white, an 07 Model bought in 08. I like it, but there's nothing about it that beats any of the other bass's I've got that cost less than half what it did new, and that's with numerous upgrades to the other bass's.
I bought one as my first bass. I do not regret the choice.
Sound wise it is a very versatile bass. It can't quite get a P-bass thump, but it does get very close, and the tonal variety is much better then most basses. It's a jack of all trades. The neck is your standard Jazz Bass, quick neck. Not the nicest out there, but very smooth and easy to play. Quality wise I have no issues. Fit and Finish look good. Tuners are decent.
One thing to keep in mind though is that this is quite a heavy bass, might be an issue with a long practice session or gig.

If it's a newer one than they're a pretty badass bass. But I had a 2000 model and it wasn't that good.
Good point, I forgot about those. I had a red one. Can't remember the exact year, but it was definitely inferior to the circa '07 model I referred to in an earlier post.
Very nice basses. I recently sold mine to my friend so he could learn bass. By God do I miss it.
The Active Jazz is basically a Standard Jazz with upgraded electronics. The body and neck are identical to the standard jazz. That being said, it is a great bass for the money. The preamp is very usable and the Noiseless pickups are just that....Noiseless! I had a sunburst model, but I really like how the Vintage White model looks! The Mexican plant has really been putting out some great instruments, and I would not hesitate in a minute to buy one.
there are a buncha nice used ones going pretty cheap on the classifieds right no. im actually considering picking up a 5er as well to match my future new 4
I had an older one that I bought back in 2000 with the poplar bodies and same pickups/electronics they were using as in the MIA Deluxes. I have to disagree with you. These basses had very good tone IMO/IME, comfortable and easy to play necks as well. Construction though, like on any MIM Fender was hit and miss but fortunately I got a well built one.
I played a newer one a few months ago when I was looking to buy a relatively inexpensive backup bass. I was no where near as impressed with the tone of the one GC had compared to the one I used to own. That's not to say it sounded bad, because it didn't, but the tone IMO didn't seem as well rounded and was lacking something in the high end. Muddy would be a good word to describe it I think. In the basses defense though, the strings did need to be changed and I do accredit this to the muddy tone this particular bass had. The action on it was pretty much the deal breaker. Even after I had the tech do a quick set up on it, it was still way too high for my liking.
Part of me regrets not buying it too. They were willing to let me have it for $450.
I've had one for over a year and I really like it. The neck is much nicer than any other MIM I've played. I think they are different, it feels like a rolled edge and it is tinted a bit. I recently replaced the pickups with real single coils and I like it a lot better. The out put is a lot lower than my passive Jazz, but this can be compensated at the amp. I want to get a P but I just can't bring myself to part with this one.

I bought one earlier this year in the black finish. Its a great instrument. I love the wide range of tonal options afforded by the active EQ it allows me to adjust my sound on the bass rather than having to fiddle with my amp during the middle of a gig.
Prior to buying this instrument, I already owned a 2000 MIM Standard Jazz, so I was already sold on the general quality of the MIMs. But as previous posters have noted, there can be subtle build anomalies on the MIMs, so if you can inspect the instrument before you buy, youll increase the odds of ensuring that you get the pick of the litter.

I GOT IT TODAY! my review to you:
pickups are noiseless, and i dont mean they say noiseless on them i mean THEY ARE NOISELESS.
still trying to squeeze a lil more low end out of it but i have a feeling the bright fresh strings are inhibiting the process, the ghs pressurewounds i have showing up in the mail today should fix that.
if it had a weight class id call it a middleweight..roughly 9 lbs by feel
easy to blend everything well i can pull a ton of sounds out of it
the neck feels,and even though its not maple i love this board
i am not a fan of the bridge but i love chunky bridges, gonna try to find a schaller fine tune bridge..adds mass without the length
mine is weighted well..a lil divey at the neck but not terrible and the bridge should balance it out nice.
it gets punchy and vibrant then you can dump it down in the mud..all in all one of the best everyday bass ive picke up. and the best part is..ITS BEAUTIFUL. black and tort makes me drool
