I just bought a brand new limited edition flaming blonde German made bolt on Thumb bass for less than $1500. It was a NOS 2007 model, not used or preowned in mint condition with all the case candy, hang tags and full factory warranty. It's number 7 of only 32 made and signed by company founder H. P. Wilfer.
I think you need to look harder or find better suppliers!

I had a Corvette and it weighed a ton. After 20 minutes my back would start to get pain; and I was in my 30's then. Probably the only instrument I did NOT regret selling. So either the P bass or consider a G&L L-2000, I think you'd be happy with that too.

There's really no reason to get bummed out. If you're smart and think you know what you want buy it used on TB at a fair price and if you don't like it after you get it just sell it for what you bought it for. Or if you want to go hassle free look in Guitar Centers used listings. If you buy there you can return it at no cost and no questions asked within 30 days. In fact if you have it shipped to your local GC and pick it up there you can return it there if needed and avoid shipping costs.

There aren't GC's here. If there was a music store here that carried all these brands I would just go and try it at the store. If Im smart and think I know what I want? If that was the case why would I be asking for advice? I don't think I've ever sold for purchased price, and multiple people have commented on how much money they have lost buying a bass and then selling it later.

I know you did not mention this BUT.....I would look at the 70's MIJ Pbass.....700-900 new/NOS and great playing and sounding.....GREAT quality and maybe another option worth checking out....just a thought...if not I would go US P bass.

With your budget, I would look for a pre 2002 Euro, they are all maple wings and neck.. this is my advice when it comes to a Spector bass.. The other Spector I would look at is the NS2A, which is a Kramer era Korean built bass, it is a neck through, all maple bass with a Korean HAZ copy in it, passive pups.. great bang for the buck.. thing is about NS2As is that they are starting to go back up in value! People are beginning to figure them out to their value in playability and tone vs the price.. and the price for one is beginning to go back up!

Sorry, didn't notice the Canada location.
And as for smarts, you strike me as someone that has a fairly good idea of what they want in general and you've already narrowed it down to some of the best basses in the market. Any German Warwick, any Eourpean Spector and any Musicman Stingray are going to be wonderfully built problem free basses with tone and attitude forever. Any one of the three can be purchased used sight unseen with virtually zero concern about quality issues or craftsmanship. Any one of the three will hold their used value for years and possibly go up in value. There are Warwick clubs and Stingray clubs and Spector clubs here on TB. Post a question in each club asking those very seasoned owners what they'd recommend, you'll get great answers and probably even some leads on great buys. Just don't mention Warwick on the Spector club thread or Spector on the Warwick club thread (there's some bad blood there) and you'll be fine.

Connect with the different TB clubs before your trip. You might even be able to hook up with a local TB member while there for additional help. I know the Spector and Warwick clubs have Toronto members and they are fanatics about their basses. Wouldn't be surprised if one of them offered to bring a couple of models to you for a quick test run.

Last bit of advice when shopping for those basses at music stores - many stores have limited used gear supplies and their new gear is frequently the less expensive bargain models. Do Not confuse an Asian built Spector with a European built Spector (USA built is probably out of your price range) or a German built Warwick with an Asian built rock bass or a Stingray with one of its Asian counterparts. Not trying to knock Asian basses but there is a noticeable difference in sound and feel in these vs their more upscale offerings from the USA and Europe.

You are asking people what basses they find comfortable that you may not agree are the right basses for you. 15 minutes should be enough to tell you if a bass is comfortable and sounds good to you. Now, quit whining and go shopping.

Do you lend yourself to being disrespectful to someone in their thread often? Maybe you should purse your fingers a bit and convey yourself in a more proper manner in someone elses thread.. if you want to be offensive, do it in your own thread.. just thinking out loud here.. let's just say, besides my spector 4
I have a smith EG6 /Modulus TBX 6
90s Smith 5 / 2012 fodera 5 NYC! and a few others!
Out of all of Them the spector in my main Bass!
