JMJ has nitro roadworn finish against poly finish in the vintera. Same tuners and bridge exept JMJ has a roadworn version. Different pickups. JMJ has beefier neck and rosewood fingerboard vs paoferro and vintage 60s c neck. Both are fantastic basses it just depends what triggers you...good luck
I didn't get on with my JMJ but that was just me whether I didn't get a good one or not I don't know but I couldn't get enough bottom end with roundwound strings. I so wanted a vintera but when it came the neck was warped and my repairer guy had awful troubles and I sent it back. Pretty happy with my AP but even that needed attention as the screws holding the pickups into the scratch plate were too small and they kept falling into the cavity !!!!! I'm looking for a deep bottom end and will be strung with flats.
They are tonaly diffrent but both are 60s re-voiced and have plenty of bottom and a vintage growl to them. They JMJ has the Vintage feel advantage cus of the nitro relic finish but the Vintera had more modern vintage specs hence the neck feel. Good luck on your hunt

Agreed re the tone. Both had nice bottom end and I found them to be more alike than not in regards to tone.
In an ideal world, the vintera with a nitro, non-roadworn, finish would have been our wish. But that doesn’t exist.
Yeah that would have been a home run for sure and with a maple neck option
The Vintera is a really well build instrument and can sure keep up with the JMJ imho
I’m just dipping into the world of short scales and mustangs, I want to try one to help with a wrist issue. I like P basses, and don’t mind having a PJ setup, but a good P sound is my go to. If I were not worried so much about the electronics of the PJ (I have an Aguilar P pickup ready to go as is and don’t mind rewiring it to fix the selector issues), and am not buying it for the roadwork look (although it does look cool), how much am I missing out on by going with the PJ over the JMJ?
I know that’s a very subjective question and I can probably gain a lot from reading these pages, but looking for some gut reactions. Thanks!

The JMJ I tried had, for me, a prohibitively chunky neck and I prefer the thinner, easier for me to play neck, ebony fingerboard and the top loading bridge of my PJ LE. I prefer the more "precision" tone of the PJ's P pickup. I also prefer the look of the PJ LE. I don't use bridge pickups.

Ha - no, my son is 10 years old, but the only thing he wanted to change about the vintera was the pickguard. He doesn’t like white pickguards.
The pickguard was made by “Quick Guards” from a tracing I made of the original. He did a fantastic job and the only thing I had to do was enlarge the pickup holes a tiny fraction. The color is called peacock burst.
