I’m pretty sure you do have to remove the neck. I’m not home, but I happen to have a picture with the pickguard off on my phone. Looks tight.

Thanks, @G-Dog - same to you and yours! And best wishes to all our Mustang owners! Our collective corral has gotten very busy since we started this group in 2017...

I'm celebrating the new year by having one last mod done to my 'stang: my master bass-savvy customizer is running the neck through his PLEK machine to level and smooth the frets. Due to pick it up next week - I'll let you all know how it goes. Not much Fender left about it except the body, neck, tuners and fretboard... but I love it.

I tried a Vintera Mustang at a local shop where I live and asked the sales guy if the neck had to be removed for truss rod adjustment, and he said it has to be removed.

As for the JMJ, I didn't have the chance to see one in person and I am reading different things in the internet. I read somewhere that you can tweak the truss rod with a philips screw driver without removing either the neck nor the pickguard.
I also read a review on the Thomann web site where someone complained the truss rod screw on the JMJ is "barely reachable" without removing the neck, so there you go.

IIRC somebody in this thread posted a pic of a specific designed tool by StewMac, which can be used to tweak the truss rod on the JMJ with no neck or pickguard removal.

I am GASing for the next release of the black JMJ but if truss rod adjustment is not easy then it's a deal breaker for me.
Unfortunately I have no opportunity to try a JMJ where I live and IMHO buying on line is always hit or miss.

I hope some JMJ owners will chime in with more info.

thank you very much for the info, for the pictures I saw it looks like you do not have to remove the neck, but it would be nice if someone that owns the bass can confirm.
this is a deal breaker for me as well.
if this is the case then i will end up getting a PJ and mod the bass, I really do not like the regular size pickups on a mustang, they look oversized.
the P pickup can be changed for a mustang P, but the J still looks weird, maybe a lipstick would suit the look better.
and BTW what JMJ black?

The black JMJ Mustang, please refer to my post, i put the link and picture from Instagram.

As you might see it is black. I think Justin himself could confirm it will be available in the near future (at least in the USA, I am afraid here in Europe we shall wait for long due to CITES certifications for shipments).
