Serek Basses Heavy-Duty Gig Bag - Serek Basses

Not sure anyone else has seen this. Serek has a new gig bag that looks awesome and is one sale for 135 till the end of the month. They picture it with a JMJ so that should be enough proof of fit.

I just got my serek last week, and was one of the first ones to get this new case, its crazy awesome. Very thick padding, and the most comfy handle you will ever hold. Cool it fits the jmj, prob other mustangs, i'll have to check mine.

My favorite sounding of the four is the PJ. That makes sense since I tried the CV, several PJs and a JMJ before settling on a black LE PJ and an earlier Oly Wht PJ with a rosewood fingerboard. Strangely enough my black one actually sounds a bit darker than my Oly....Maybe it is all about the paint...

Hey ya! Thought I'd share my modded MIM PJ! So I'd already swapped the stock bridge for the high mass pictured. I took it in to my guitar shop, we replaced the stock Jazz PU (you all know the problems with those) for this Duncan stack. Also replaced a defective pot that was causing a ground issue (Not Fender's fault -- I got this used off eBay and the seller sent it to me disassembled! In a single-walled cardboard box! I did get some money back for it but OMG!).

Also, and my favorite thing -- swapped that three-way switch for a blend knob.

Okay, my favorite thing is actually the new PU. What a difference! It balances the P sooooo much better, and no more annoying hum. But I love the knob instead of that switch!

I've come to agree with @Bobhmcs though -- I'd like to change the pick guard if I can somehow peel off the Vladivostok sticker (I can always get a new OB one)

Mustang owners - I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I LOVE playing my CIJ mustang (with a nordstrom pickup). I've mostly been a closest bass player, and this is my only bass. But I've been asked to do a fill in gig with a local funk band - doing parliament, the metres, earth wind and fire, etc...

Do you think my little mustang, with flats, is up to the task? I love playing it and how it sits with most bands, but this is a new group/genre for me, and there won't be a single rehearsal!

Anyone else using their mustang for funk, or should I be thinking about renting something like a jazz bass?

Yep, I do want to keep the sticker. I love it! But I might want to take the OB sticker off in any case. I think it clutters the look.

OMG I played it for a while last night and what a difference the new Jazz PU makes! It's just stellar now.

If you like it and you think you sound good on it, play it. I’d take an instrument I’m comfortable with over a “better” (even that is debatable btw) bass I’m not used to playing any day.

Wow, if I couldn't use my Mustang for that music, I would find another group! Mustangs, especially with flats, offer a lower thump and the same or better (and deeper) sound than a J or a P, according to a number of gigging Mustang owners. I won't get into an pi$$ing contest with J or P purists, just recommend you try it. Heck, there are worse basses to use with funk .

Cool! I'm actually pretty new to the style and at least locally, I'm used to seeing jazz basses on these kinds of gigs - and while I love my mustang, it sure doesn't sound like a jazz bass!

Not necessarily a bad thing, though, as I've also heard some pretty terrible jazz basses over the years (and some good ones - don't get me wrong).

That said, I've been digging more into the songs this afternoon and realizing that my mustang is likely going to be just great. Certainly a different voice than what the band's normal bass player uses, but I'm at least personally really digging it on these songs!

If you can use the EQ on your amp before going direct into the house board or if you have a Direct box with a pre-amp and a EQ you will be able to dial in a great tone for funk.
