Fender Mustang Club

Hey guys, not sure if it’s already known but just an FYI. My black JMJ Mustang’s Nitrocellulose lacquer reacted to the foam of my Hercules guitar rack. It doesn’t bother me because the guitar is relicced but others might mind.
I had a 1978 US built mustang from new way back then. I’m looking at the Mexican PJ player range now. Not a chance to try one in the shop as in London Covid has closed the music shops.
Do you think I’d be disappointed with a current-ish Mexican PJ? I do not think I would be but would welcome any views.

I've got a new Player Mustang in Sienna burst and think it's great.
Realize that it has a P/J pickup configuration instead of a traditional Mustang pickup.
There are many pickups of that type available if you want to swap them later.
It's also got a standard bridge rather than the large Mustang style bridge.
1.5" thinner neck, and 9.5" radius. Slab body with nice roundovers.
Truss rod adjustment is at the neck.
Looks and sounds real good. No way to tell if it's what you'd be looking for though.

I was surprised about two things. I didn't expect much of a difference in which pup I was switched to, because on my Gretsch Jr. there is not much difference, nor should there be because they are the same. On the new Fender - dramatic difference. Secondly, while waiting for my Fender I was devouring You Tube videos and reading reviews where I concluded that you have to live with humming when running off the J pickup. Not so. No humming! I don't mind the narrow neck because my night time and boat practice axe is my Kala U-Bass which I got used to.
I have to admit that a lot of things I gravitated towards in life had to do with looks. The Fender Mustang Player PJ is hauntingly beautiful, proof that not all poetry is found in books.
So yeah, I like it.
Sounds good, sounds really good. I have tried many basses since my last mustang and it sounds like the PJ is going to be right up my street! Great to hear about your experiences with yours!

I did have to route. Not as much as you might think looking at the pickup from up top, but some.
Did it mostly by hand (don’t have a router) so it looks nasty below the pickguard as well, but not in the best way.
Sure I did, but I like this one more.
To be honest I never played it much with the stock pickup. I bought the bass to mod it.
Stock pickup is going to a guy who is restoring an old Competition, so it will not go unused.

What kind of Bisonic is that (vintage, modern Guild, Darkstar, Novak, etc.)? Can you gives us any tonal comparison to the stock Mustang pickup?
That kinda sucks, though of course you already paid extra to have someone else beat the finish to crap for you, so... Anyway, if you’re bummed, you’re bummed, and if it’s sticky in that area, that’s different (and worse) than just having a worn finish.
Most of my instruments are nitro, so on my Hercules stands, I have little cloth wraps (made from strips ripped off old t-shirts or whatever odd piece of cloth my wife had lying around) safety pinned around those parts that make contact with the instruments. On my other stands, I either only use them very temporarily or, on my little triangular floor ones (the cheapos with no neck support), I just lay an old t-shirt right over everything
Hercules says their stands are safe for nitrocellulose finishes. I wonder what's going on with that?
