Looks great! From what you’re saying, it might be more "bisonic" than "mudbucker", but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. 500k should brighten it up a bit (for a given control setting).View attachment 3983957 Shout out to dude who replied when I was looking for a Pawn Shop series.. I got my hands on one. Not as fat as I anticipated...... definitely not worth the price they go for. What a shame. Anybody ever upgrade the pots to 500k?
Try it, with the bass’s controls on ‘10’, into a maxing out non-master volume tube amp, if possible (and then back off from there to get a sound you want). Also, such basses would have come with flats back in the day, which changes the sound.
It may not be exactly what you thought you were getting into, but you might find you like it for what it is.
Meanwhile, although it’s a different bass entirely, I thought I might mention that I have an SG bass with a Novak EB-BSx pickup (a mudbucker-sized dual Bisonic-coiled humbucker, lol) and it really comes alive with a Catalinbread SFT distortion pedal - might try one of those if you don’t have a distortable non-mv tube amp on hand (I don’t, so the pedal). And of course, with the pedal off, it still does a deep-but-clear clean
