Hey everyone! I just picked up a brand new Fender Mustang in Olympic White. Digging the sound for the most part and the bass plays like butter. I have rheumatoid arthritis, so I thought that having a short scale around for days when my hands hurt badly might be a good thing.

I was thinking of changing the pickups to EMG Geezers or Basslines though.

Has anyone done away with the three-way switch and replaced it with a tone knob so that the controls would be V/V/T? Just curious if anyone has tried this yet?

Actually, I'm waiting on return of my Mustang PJ from the mod man with changed controls (among other things)... switch will be gone (nothing in that spot no mo - tired of klutz-bumping into it), and knobs will be same current master volume, but tone becomes a stacked knob: tone + PU blend.

Thanks! Any thoughts on the neck? There certainly don’t seem to be Mustang aftermarket Pups around so I’m guessing they’re just standard all round

I would guess a standard PJ cover set would fit it.

Yes, I've got the regular Seymour Duncan SPB-3 for P-Bass pickups in my Mustang PJ. The person I got it from had already put them in so don't know how they compare to the stock ones, but can say it sounds great.

+1. I also own a Ric and a Mustang (and a few others...) and I don't think I'd want to give up either.

Seems to be a lot of that going around.

I'm also a Ric & Mustang owner. My "bury me with" basses with be my '79 4001, and my CIJ Mustang.

Hi, not sure if this was already asked or mentioned, but did anyone compared the tone of the small P pickups vs the regular P offered in the new PJ.

I really bugs me that fender did not give the option to buy a regular mustang, unless you buy the JM.

To me the regular pickups look oversized.

Here’s a question: I’m planning to replace the pick guard on my sonic blue PJ. White pearloid seems the way to go, but before I set that in motion, do any of the illustrious Stang Clubbers have experience/ pics of alternatives??

I'm working towards purchasing a second used PJ Mustang. My 2nd one (if it pans out) is white. I plan to cut a three-ply red pickguard for it, to fit my band's colour scheme and to copy the scheme of my old Jazzbird bass.

My other observation is how quickly those Capri Orange Mustangs sold out everywhere!

It is a very '70s colour. People seem to be offloading sonic blue Mustangs (the weaker hued, almost white variant, not the richer sonic blue that some guys have on here) at the moment. I'm holding onto mine!

I was tempted by the Torino Red variant as well, but the red doesn't sit nicely with the lighter pau ferro fretboards Fender have gone over to.

When the PJs came out Anderton's got a couple CIJs in as well. It's where I got mine. That's not to say you'll find them everywhere, just that there may be some available if they didn't all ship to the states.

So I contacted both Fender USA and Fender UK to try and find out how I can get replacement tuners for the stock ones that were missing on the Mustang PJ bass I picked up recently (the previous owner put in all black hardware which I'm not really a fan of). Turns out they aren't available as aftermarket parts.

I was wondering if someone could do me a favour and let me know the measurements for the tuners that come with the bass so I can figure out my options for third party ones? The distance between the holes in particular as well as overall length and width? There's already two sets of holes in the headstock, and ideally I'd like to avoid drilling a third set of holes.

Never occurred to me finding a set of stock tuners would be so complicated.
